A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
I’m completely appalled by what is being reported today about the bodies found in the Tigris. There are more people involved in this crime against humanity than just those people who pulled the trigger or dumped the bodies in the river. The Iraqi government today found 50 bodies in the Tigris river, some of them women and children. Not only were 50 bodies found in a river, but 20 more bodies of Iraqi soldiers were found in a stadium.
I’m telling you that these “clerics” need to suffer the same fate. Initially, they had told the government that there weren’t any hostages in their town. This was presumably to buy time while the insurgents disposed of the bodies. Naturally, when the Iraqi police came through searching for the missing people they didn’t find anything. It wasn’t until a later tip that they went back and found the bodies in the river. There needs to be a cleansing in that town. We’re interrogating the wrong people. While I’m sure this isn’t the politically correct thing to say, the Muslim clerics in that town need to be interrogated and their lives put under a microscope. Their homes need to be searched, their computers probed, the bank accounts scrutinized. Their mosques need to be searched also, preferably by Muslim government officials. If ANYTHING is found that links these guys to the terrorists who committed this tragedy, they need to be dealt with immediately (preferably suffering the same fate).
On another note, I want to discuss the SGT, no just Hasan Akbar’s case. I prefer not to refer to him as a SGT because he is NOT one. He has not lived the creed, he has not protected his fellow soldiers, he is NOT even a soldier in my eyes. You may remember Akbar as the guy that threw grenades into the tent of REAL soldiers in Kuwait, killing two officers. I was in Kuwait when this happened, not far from that camp. As a matter of fact, I was on that camp the week before he threw the grenade. You want to talk about psychological issues! Imagine thinking that someone in your unit may be thinking about throwing a grenade in your tent.
Well, now his father is demanding an inquiry into possible religious and racial harrassment his soldier may have suffered prior to killing those people. Excuse me, but is Hasan dead because of those comments? Don’t get me wrong, racial and religious harrassment is deplorable, but is he dead? No!! Those two soldiers, however, are. And their families are trying to live with that fact. And Hasan’s father thinks he has the right to ask for anything. He wrote a letter to the Associated Press called “Concerned Father Seeks Justice For Loved Son”. I’m willing to give his son the justice he seeks. Just send him to California and give me a crate of grenades. I’ll place his son into a tent with no way to escape and casually toss in a few grenades and open fire with my M16 at the same time. If he survives, I’ll throw a few more and unload another magazine. If he doesn’t, justice will have been done and his father will get his wishes. I apologize for sounding cold about this, but I can live with (though it’s still upsetting) a soldier being killed by the enemy. But, to die at the hands of your brother is inexusable. The guy that’s supposed to be watching your back is plotting to release shrapnel through it.
Okay, I’m not being as positive and upbeat as I normally am, so I’m going to close before I get more upset. It just upsets me, soldiers killing soldiers and Iraqis killing Iraqis.

I did not realize that the bodies found in river..are the ones that were the hostages in the town Mosque. You are correct that something needs to be done to catch the ones that did this. What is the MSM saying about this?? For me it was very unclear to understand.
Concerning the man that killed the Soldiers…when I heard about it…by stomach just hurt. Your justice for this…man….would be deserved. It is very upsetting.

Actually, only time will tell with that. It just happened today and I was able to find the story on all the major news networks, though still listed UNDER the Michael Jackson headline. The test will be whether this gets swept under the carpet in the next few days instead of being reported with a little more scrutiny and tenacity.

CJ,
First, as far as the bodies found, NOTHING surprises me with the MSM. In fact, when they rarely print something that conflicts with their ‘war is bad under “ANY AND EVERY” circumstance’, I am usually shocked (since it is that rare).
As for that “Sgt”, I don’t even know what to say. If the MSM tries to pull the sympathy route with that traitor, all hell will break loose. That will be the last straw for most of America. Don’t be surprised if the American Communist Liberty Union (ACLU) also gets involved soon, nothing is beyond them in contempt for our country.
This is where civilians like me draw the line….
As they say: fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice…
I cannot even fathom the idea of guys and gals like you risking their lives for our country, only then looking over their shoulder if this isn’t resolved promptly and properly. I have a few military friends myself, and moral and belief in the goals is everything. Keep up the fight, or at least the observations CJ, America is coming out of its slumber.

CJ, i love to comment but man, you’ve said it all. what a shmuck. that SGT will hopefully meet a fate worse than death. its only too bad you cant kill him more than once. as you know, my eric is on his 2nd tour and i have enough to worry about. the thought that one of his own comrades would do this is just despicable. *spit*

For the amount of people killed..and how tragic this story is … yes, there were some words about these Iraqi’s ..but sadly too little. Seattle Times had this story on page 12. And with a helicopter( in Iraq) being brought down by a missile… I have a feeling it is going to get very little press… It’s ALL so sad.
