A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
Yesterday, Emily and I went to Vegas for her 10-year high school reunion. While it was a 10-year reunion for the class of 1995, all classes were invited since we graduated from such a small school, Camp Zama American High School at Camp Zama, Japan. We left early so that we could tool jjmnmmmm,.;././Vegas and the outlet malls since we don’t get out much.
We walked around the shops at Luxor and Mandalay Bay. There is an awesome place called the Chocolate Swan at Mandolay Bay that has the best custard ice cream. After walking around there for awhile, we went to the Bellagio. The Bellagio is a beautiful hotel with shops I think I was too poor to even look at. I convinced Emily to go into a Tiffany’s just to say we did. I felt every camera in the store aim their reticles at us as soon as we walked through the door. Emily said it reminded us of the Pretty Woman movie: “We don’t serve your kind, here.” The Bellagio is home to places like Georgio Armani, Gucci, Chanel, Prada, Dior and other European stuffy types.
The jewel of Bellagio though, in my opinion, is Chocolate Falls. Chocolate Falls is home to the world’s largest chocolate fountain.

Yes, that’s all melted chocolate trickling down!
This is just one picture of it. It’s a huge thing, but I don’t want to overdo it with a billion pictures of melted chocolate. Emily and I shared a delicious (albeit $6.00) cheesecake wrapped in white chocolate and topped with a raspberry. I wish I would have taken a picture of that.
Anyway, Vegas almost paid for itself. While walking around I was able to find $10.47 for the Parking Lot Pennies campaign to take the kids to Disneyland. Amazing the kind of money people in Vegas just leave lying around. Some people probably get so excited that they won $10 at the slots after playing $30 that they don’t pick up all their coins. In many machines I found nickels and quarters. I nearly knocked Emily over running to a $10 bill I saw off the sidewalk a little near some bushes.
For dinner, we went to a place called Makino’s Gormet Seafood and Sushi Buffet. All you can eat sushi and seafood for about $25 per person. The class met there for the reunion dinner. Since Emily and I both graduated from the same high school, I knew a few people there as well. It was a good time. Afterward the dinner, we took some group photos and headed to Nefratiti’s Lounge in the Luxor. Since Emily and I don’t drink, we just had a couple of virgin frozen daquiris and listened to the band. We talked for a little while, but then decided it was getting late and we still needed to drive home.
I’m not feeling too well, so I’m gonna get off now and talk more later. But, before I leave, I want to share this cartoon sent to me via email:

MOM
I would have to say that switch is going be pulled more than once.LOL. Whom ever sent it gets props.

Probably all the sushi I ate last night. I don’t think I’ve ever been so full on sushi!
) Perhaps, I’m paying for it now.

Cj,
I have a penny for ya for your Sidewalk Pennies. I was leaving Wal Mart the other day and dropped a penny on accident trying to put my coins back into my wallet. I thought about leaving it there and then thought…What would Cj do? LOL!! So I picked it up.

Hmmm, I guess I should hope for a certain level on anonymity with this site so that everyone is oblivious to the money they’re dropping. If everyone realized there’s money to be made on the streets, they will be less likely to drop it.

CJ: Now why didn’t I ever hear of that chocolate place before? oh well–next time… If I was marooned(sp) on a desert island and had one wish, it would be chocolate. THEN, and only then would the island be anything close to paradise.
