A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
Captain John A. Kasparian writes an affectionate letter similar to what I’ve written directed towards the family and friends of Marines who were killed recently.
Dear Family and Friends,
We have the deepest sympathies for the families of our fallen 21 Marines and the other Marines who have given their lives for Iraq and for each other. We recognize that several of them came from other units, like 4th Amphibious Assault Battalion who has taken every risk with us. After the last week’s incidents, when asked if they wanted to leave, every Marine from Company L said “We came here to do a job and we will finish it.” A Marine dropped off six detainees who had just attacked his men; I asked him how it was going out there. He simply shook his head and said, “Busy.” He quickly smiled and headed out the door.

Thankfully, I’ve got backup.

Thank you for this. One of my AAP adoptees is with the 3/25…needless to say, I’ve been a total WRECK the past few days. So far, his name hasn’t appeared on any “lists” but I’m still scared to pieces for him…and so very heartbroken for all who were lost.
Sad & Worried,
~Kat

Here is a link, hope it works, about one of those marines killed last week who was from Montana, a member of the Billings Marine Reserve unit here. This is in part an interview from his parents. They must be so proud of him. Another hero….http://www.billingsgazette.com/index.php?id=1&display=rednews/2005/08/06/build/state/25-bloem.inc
We don’t have many troops from Montana in Iraq, and that probably doesn’t matter to anyone, however it in no way diminishes their service to our nation.

Those same type of words came from my Marines yesterday. They lost one on July 21 and after service they were ready to get back to work and get the job done. Gotta luv em!
