A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
I’m not going to go in depth about my disgust with THIS. We can probably thank Cindy Sheehan to some degree for the fact that soldiers are now being shot and injured by the very people we’re trying to help. This is what happens when you constantly tear soldiers and the military profession. After endless media coverage designed to turn support against military operations, you can’t help but expect Americans to want to shoot a soldier than support his efforts to kill terrorists. Okay, so maybe I am going in depth with my disgust. Then you get people like Paul Rieckhoff who’s sole job is to tear down the few reporters who actually go to Iraq and cover the soldier’s actions instead of the crap the rest of the media spouts from their pie holes.
Check out the last two paragraphs of the article for the sadness of it all.
“I never thought that at a National Guardsman I would be shot at by other Americans, said Spc. Philip Baccus of the 527th Engineer Battalion. “And I never thought I’d have to carry a rifle when on a hurricane relief mission. This is a disgrace.
With that said, let me add this: Remember that the media is again looking for sensationalism. I’m sure that there is a lot of good stuff going on in Louisiana right now. I’m not there, so I’m not sure exactly what the situation is with the looters insurgents terrorists. For all I know, there was on group of three people who shot at someone and now we have an entire city under siege. It’s gotten to the point where I can’t even trust the media. They don’t report news, they report rumour and innuendo. A good example is the “Breaking News” email I got from CNN today. It said, “Army Corps of Engineers says police killed some of its workers as they crossed a bridge on the way to repair a canal.”
I was immediately pissed, but in my usual fashion decided to look into the claim before losing my head. Sure enough, nothing of the sort had happened. What actually happened was that the Corps of Engineers was fired upon and the police killed those guys. No one from the Corps was injured or killed. After exhaustively searching for the truth, I get another email from CNN with this headline, “Army Corps of Engineers says its contractors were not killed by police, but gunmen who fired at them were killed.”
The problem with today’s media is that they “report” THEN ask questions. How about getting the story correct then telling us what happened? That’s like getting a marriage license then going to look for a bride.

I haven’t watched the news in a long time. Months. I have no faith in it. Like you said, they report rumour and innuendo. It is more like a popularity contest then it is news stories. Even the local news I watch with my guard up. I can usually get the truth if I ask around. I don’t take what the news has to say as truth. It’s more like a review of a book and to get the whole story you have to go get the book yourself.
Cute crack at the end though CJ, “then go looking for a bride.”..

But the MSM is much better than the Blogosphere as, unlike the Blogosphere, they have all those checks and balances.

The media can screw up just about anything, and do so at will. Like you I am absolutely fed up and disgusted with this crap. I have a good friend who is down there and saw what is going on. Spread the word. Not everybody sees things the way the media do.
