I seem to be making a habit out of calling idiots…well, idiots! It’s what I do: state the obvious. Anyway, read THIS and stay tuned for my perspective. No time right now.
Okay, now I will. During Assad’s interview with CNN, he is asked if the problem of Syrians slipping into Iraq to assist the insurgency is a bad thing and would he “like to see the insurgency stopped.” Assad’s answer is pure political buck-passing, but listen to this part of his answer:
“We should differentiate between the insurgency and the Iraqis who fight against the American and British troops. This is something different. I’m talking about the people who killed the Iraqis, those who will call them terrorists. We are against them completely.”
What Assad is saying here is that it’s okay to kill American and British troops, just not Iraqis. There’s no reading into that, it’s stated quite clearly.
Later, he was asked if preventing the chaos that he claims would affect Syria would influence his decision to support what the U.S. is doing in Iraq. He completely talked around the questions, instead talking about a political process that wasn’t mentioned. So, Assad wants to support the political process in Iraq while at the same time supporting the killing of Americans and British, the same people ensuring the political process is successful. He closes by saying,
“So we support Iraq. It’s different from supporting the United States.”
For these reasons, it is my conclusion that President Bashir Assad is an IDIOT. He somehow became president (mostly due to the death of his brother) and has used that position to attack the United States when and where it can. In talking about not being able to secure his borders, he refers to our issues securing our borders. However, unlike our border, you don’t see an active attempt being made to patrol that area. It’s obvious that the Iraqis are not yet at their full capacity to secure their own border yet. Assad claims to want to help and talks around the subjects.
There’s a reason that Syria has been on the State Departments list of terrorist supporting countries since 1979.

CJ, That is not very nice to say! Just because he is not the brightest bulp in the package does not mean that he is an idiot. It just means that he outsmarted the other light bulbs!

CJ – I think the term “idiot” must be a more specific and desciptive army term referring to those who do or say stupid things that could have serious and dangerous repercussions to others (as opposed to the more general civilian definition describing someone who’s ignorant, feebleminded or foolish). In a letter that I just received from a deployed soldier that I correspond with, he wrote that: “I hope there is not some idiot to ruin and spoil this exciting time in Iraqi history, but I know i ask too much….” Hmm, can you imagine any “idiots” doing something like that?

Baby Assad is on his way out. A funeral with full Syrian military honors (random firing of AK-47s and kids with mock bomb belts parading around) is planned.
Cocktails and heavy pupus planned at Western embassies throughout the middle east will follow the blessed event.
