I’ve been in a weird mood lately. I’ve been wanting to do goofy stuff. I think it’s because I’m so happy that this is my last rotation. No more field time, no more crawling through the dirt, no more wind blown sandstorms. When I got this Scam email, I HAD to answer it. When I read something and ideas instantly come to my head, I know I have to act on them. This is just another angle the scammers are using to con us out of money. So, here’s the latest “Nigerian Scam” though it looks like it’s coming from Hong Kong this time:

Let me start by introducing myself. I am Mr. Ming Yang director of operations of the Hang Seng Bank Ltd. I have an obscured business suggestion for you. Before the U.S and Iraqi war our client Gen. Aadel Akgaal Bastaan who was with the Iraqi forces and also businessman made a numbered fixed deposit for 18 calendar months, with a value of Twenty Four million Five Hundred Thousand United State Dollars only in my branch. Upon maturity several notices was sent to him, even during the war which began in
2003. Again after the war another notification was sent and still no response came from him. We later find out that the General along with his wife and only daughter had been killed during the war in a bomb blast that hit their home. After further investigation it was also discovered that Gen. Aadel Akgaal Bastaan did not declare any next of kin in his official papers including the paper work of his bank deposit. And he also confided in me the last time he was at my office that no one except me knew of his deposit in my
bank. So, Twenty Four million Five Hundred Thousand United State Dollars is still lying in my bank and no one willknow of it. What bothers me most is that
according to the laws of my country at the expiration 3 years the funds will revert to the ownership of the Hong Kong Government if nobody applies to claim the funds.
Against this backdrop, my suggestion to you is that I will like you as a foreigner to stand as the next of kin to Gen. Aadel Akgaal Bastaan so that you will be able to receive his
funds.

WHAT IS TO BE DONE:

I want you to know that I have had everything planned out so that we shall come out successful. I have an attorney that will prepare the necessary document that will back you up as the next of kin to Gen. Aadel Akgaal Bastaan, all
that is required from you at this stage is for you to provide me with your Full Names and Address so that the attorney can commence his job. After you have been made the next of kin, the attorney will also fill in for claims on your behalf and secure the necessary approval and letter of probate in your favour for the move of the funds to an
account that will be provided by you.

There is no risk involved at all in this matter, as we are going adopt a legalized method and the attorney will prepare all the necessary documents. Please endeavor to observe utmost discretion in all matters concerning this issue. Thank you for entrusting me with this endeavor. My name is Yank Yur Chang. My parents actually named me Yur Chang, but since I now live in America my friends have nicknamed me Yank, like Yankee. So, I changed my naturalization papers to reflect my new, American name. My parents were immigrants from Hong Kong themselves, so we have something in common. I’ve never actually lived there, but I try to stay close to my people by watching all the Jackie Chan movies I can. My favorite line of his was, “Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth?” The reason it’s my favorite is because I actually COULDN’T understand the words coming out of his mouth.

About this business of millions of dollars. It’s sad that the good general had to die in Iraq. I read the stories with intense interest but didn’t see anything about the good general. Are you sure he’s really dead? I don’t remember
hearing anything about a war with Iraq. Did they invade Iran again or did Israel finally get fed up with them for the Desert Storm strikes and finally retaliate? I don’t think it’s a good idea for Iraq to be starting any more wars. If Saddam loses power, America would have to go in there and set things straight.

I’m interesting in hearing more about this war. Where I live in rural Kansas the newspapers haven’t said much about the war? The only thing that makes news around here is when when Bessy Stevenson’s cow down the road gives birth a couple of times each year. Of course, this past summer we won the annual Hornet’s Nest Shoot for the first time in almost 15 years. Each year I have to go to the emergency because the hornets would catch up to me and I’d get stung hundreds of times. This year, I did sprints for hours each day so that I wouldn’t get caught and it paid off. Tom Gadzooks from across town ended up in the ER this year. Just between you and me, I put honey on the back of his shirt before the competition.

Anyway, enough about what my life is like since I left Hong Kong. Please tell me how I can help and I’d be glad to be of service. Since we’re practically brothers, you name it and I’ll do it. It’s good to finally speak with someone from the “mother land.”
