A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
[LAST UPDATE] Chris exceeded his goal with a total of $511 in sales. Thank you all for your orders. The popcorn arrives on November 19 and will be sent out that following Monday.
I have another request. The unit getting sent this popcorn has teams in the boonies of Afghanistan. The unit is an EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) unit, a very dangerous job to begin with in the military. These are people responsible for detonating IEDs. Anyway, some of the soldiers in Afghanistan literally live in mud huts throughout the Afghan desert. Again, I’m deeply grateful for all the popcorn bought so far.
I’m asking anyone else able to buy some popcorn to order the tins that have pre-popped corn in them. The soldiers there do not have microwaves and most of the orders were for the microwaveable bags. That’s not a problem because some of them DO have microwaves. Please check with your businesses and coworkers and ask them if they’d like to buy some to have shipped as well. Talk to your families, your friends, your neighbors, your fellow church members (if you go), the Wal-Mart door greeter guy, anyone you can think of. You can view and print the catalogue again HERE.
This isn’t Chris’s request so please don’t feel bad or obligated. Don’t feel that way anyway, but I’d really like to help these guys out. Many soldiers deployed today have the luxeries of TVs, microwaves, internet, warm showers, restaurants, etc. The guys I’d like to send this popcorn to do not. I want them to know that people are aware that life sucks for them and we’re just trying to make it a little bearable.
Thanks again for all your support in this. The sale ends Friday, October 28th, and all I need is your order by then, not the money. The money isn’t officially due until November 19th when I actually get the popcorn. I appreciate everything you do for soldiers on a daily basis, even if all you can do is pray for them. We feel your prayers and they do work.
[UPDATE] Chris has set a sales goal of $500. He’s already at $161, which is more than he thought. He’s still a shy little kid, so getting him out today to knock on doors was quite the experience. The first couple of houses we went to all said no and he was demotivated about it. He started to cry and I told him that there are going to be more people saying “no” than “yes.” I urged him to say a prayer for help and convinced him to continue. The next few houses we went to all said yes. There were more “no’s” but he handled them with a lot more dignity.
Chris, the star of the award winning Chris-isms, is in scouts for the first time. And since I put Anissa’s Girl Scout Cookies on the site earlier this year, I told Chris I’d help him sell Popcorn this time. Since he’s already excited, I’m sure that many Chris-isms will result from these sales. He’s already excited that there are Legos to be won for selling popcorn (even though that’s not his sales goal.
So, if you’d like to buy Popcorn for yourself (or to send to a deployed soldier) HERE is the catalogue. You can email me if you’d like to order. Just like I did with the Girl Scout Cookies, I’m willing to ship any popcorn you’d like to donate to the deployed from Fort Irwin. The cookies, by the way, were a hit.
[UPDATE] Chris is closing in on his goal. He’s only $160 away from it. Chris asked me say thanks to everyone who has ordered so far: “Daddy, can you put it on your .com that I said thanks? Can you also put it on Lego.com in case Anakin wants some?” He’s really into Star Wars Legos lately. Guess I should move that to a Chris-ism!

Just kidding…

No it’s true. I won’t be handling the shipping this time so it gets done right and on time. Last time I had so much going on and forgot to send some shipments on time. Won’t happen this time though.

Some rules on customer service:
Rule #1:
It takes months to find a customer..seconds to lose one.
Rule #2:
Customer Service is not a department…it’s an attitude.
Rule #3:
If YOU don’t take care of the customer…somebody else will.
Rule #4:
Service does not come from a manual…it comes from the heart.
Chris has already figured this out. Has his shipping department done the same???
he he.

The shipping department has gone through a series of overhauls and upgrades. It has hired new management which will ensure proper oversight. Chris’s sales and the shipping department have become cohesive and integrated teams. Only time will tell.
