Thank you for posting a section of Cindy's book! My Husband is a contractor in Iraq; he left in Sep'06 and doesn't come home till Feb'07. Most people are surprised when I tell them he isn't in the military anymore, they just assume he is. Unfortunatley, contractors are raked over the coals by the media. Why is this? They are serving their country and fighting for freedom right along side the troops. They have sacrificed everything to be over there and support the troops in their efforts. Please don't forget about them. Thank you, Jennifer.

Most of the TCN's that we work with are from Egypt, Pakistan, Turkey, Philippines, an many other Asian and Middle Eastern countries. For the most part they are a great group of guys. Many don’t speak English, but we make do with the ones that can and with a sort of sign language.

And to answer the first question....yes, I am a civilain contractor, as well as the mother of a soldier and I am Cindy.

Lisa, what Anna said...a TCN is anyone that is neither from the US nor the country we are in...ie: Iraq. In Kuwait, an Iraqi is considered a TCN if he/she lives there. A Pakistani in Iraq may consider us TCNs.

CJ, thanks for always keeping us informed! We forget that there are others besides the troops and Iraqis. May they stay safe!

"TCN" is Third Country National - not Iraqi and not American. I think there are a lot of TCNs working for contractors, but CJ could probably clarify about them more than me.

CJ- you have brought to our attention the otherwise overlooked courage and contribution of the civilian contractors who support the military effort in Iraq. I have one little technical question... what is a "TCN"? I don;t actually HAVE to know this- I'm just terminally curious! Thanks again CJ for all the work you do on the blog.

Thanks for this article. People tend to neglect the contractor aspects to a war. They feel it is all soldier of fortune related and not the true reality.

Thanks for posting this. Civilian contractors do make a HUGE difference. My father in law just returned from Iraq after spending a year there as a bomb dog handler for the Canine Associates International. Each person there is serving a purpose and a cause greater than themselves. Thanks again for the insights and for sharing Cindy's words. Take care!

Isn't 'White Rose' a contractor (I believe) who comments here periodically, over in the sandbox now? I expect they all have some mad/sad/glad stories to tell. I loved Cindy's friend's summary of why she felt the need to stay. Long live the American Spirit; in Cindy, in all our troops, in all of us!

Thanks CJ for posting that. I forget about the many contractors there are in Iraq. They are a brave bunch. Cindy sounds like a very brave person who is doing this for our country and to help our military out.

I heard of one contractor early on in the war getting kidnapped but he got away from his captors and met up with some American soldiers who rescued him.

God Bless and keep them safe as well as our brave soldiers!!
