I only thought that I was a hardass. The respect shown to a fallen comrade has taught me otherwise. To LCpl Chance, LtCol Mike Strobl who so aptly related his story and to all of our fallen brothers, You are my heros. To their families, mine will never know the grief you have felt, I salute you, one and all.

Beautifully documented....Chance Phelps story needed to be told. And his Military Escort LtCol. Strobl's. May God Bless all our brother's and sisters who serve in harm's way.

And thank you for your dedication to service in the name of freedom and liberty.

I am a Viet Nam vet, and this is a story and a film that should be view by everyone. As I watched the movie, I found myself both filled with pride and filled with memories of the friends that I lost during Viet Nam. I watched the movie by myself and was glad I did,I hate for other people to see me cry.

After just watching 'Taking Chance' on television tonight, I decided to look online for some more information on this hero, Chance Phelps. I am a 23 year old civilian, with no family members currently serving in the military and only a few old friends from high school actively wearing the uniform that I rarely talk to anymore. While watching the movie and reading the actual accounts of LtCol Strobl, there was no way to hold back the tears of sadness and pride that fell in honor of all those who have been lost in this conflict. As I said, I am a civilian and it was due to knee injuries that held me back from enlisting out of high school, but I will always hold dear to me the stories of those lost and those who have lost those close to them. As my mechanic, a former Marine, once told me, "A Marine NEVER dies." Best wishes and may God continue to bless those who serve.

This story is a true testament to the "Band of Brothers" that I joined 19 years ago. After drying my eyes and saying a prayer for our Marines and Soldiers still in harms way, I read the story again and it was like I was with the LtCol every step of the way. These Marines will be our modern day heroes that future and former Marines will talk about while sharing war stories @ VFW's across our great land. Semper Fi!

This was a very touching story. I was looking at the internet to find more information about CACO's becuase my Battalion wants to send letters of appreciation to them. I just happened to stumble upon this website. I am a united states Marine currently fighting ISO Operation Iraqi Freedom. My unit got here in Iraq on March 13, 2006. If you all have been watching the news you would have saw that we have taken a few KIA's the last 2 months. I personally talk to the Marines assigned as the CACO. It is not an easy job. It gave me a sense of pride on being here and being a Marine. Chance is a Hero and so is all that pays the ultimate sacrifice. The old saying goes "Once a Marine, Always a Marine"! I know that Chance is watching us now as we fight in Iraq for the Freedom of our country all the way down to a little town called Dubois.

I am reading this in Charlottesville, VA, but I learned about the story from my daughter, who currently lives in the south of France with her husband and two children. My husband, while not a Marine, served in Vietnam with the US Army. My tears flowed also, as both a mother of sons, and a grandmother, too. Our country is in the debt of its sons and daughters serving their country in many places where they are in danger on our behalf. I am grateful for their service. Thank you for this story being told so thoroughly and well.

I've read "Taking Chance" somewhere before. Definitely requires that tissues be close at hand. Also, it reminds me of the story the Rocky Mountain News did on 2nd Lt James Cathey late last year. A long read, but a very touching one: http://denver.rockymountainnews.com/news/finalSalute/
