A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE

Murtha, and the media in general, don’t realize why in the world a soldier would have any reason to shoot a kid. To those still confused about the kind of war we in which we are engaged and the type of enemy we are dealing with, I offer this:
Thanks to Chad who sent this video to CJ who sent it to me. Hehe.

Just sickening.

Being a native Pennsylvanian, I take offense at your “Murtha” comments. He is not saying how can they shoot a kid. He is asking how can you shoot kids in a family where they may not have had anything to do with what happened to the Marine. Please don’t take the easy way out and say, the media doesn’t understand.
I won’t say more since I am not in the box. But the military, and the Marines in general, have not disputed paying the relatives about $40,000. Those, like myself, who read and watch the media, have heard about this story since late December/early January. The media hasn’t lied about what happened during the incident; they weren’t there, they don’t know what happened. But they have interviewed Iraqis in the area while the military continues to deny the event happened. If the military did indeed pay the money, there should be a report to justify the payment.
Again, I don’t think Murtha or the media believes that kids can’t participate in fighting or war, it happens all over the world. Military members serving in Iraq are in a tough situation, and after Abu Ghraib, we know who the powers that be will pin any problems on. In the U.S., the have already taken to calling the Marines, rogues, much like the soldiers at the prison. It’s a tough situation, but everyone needs to keep his or her head.

Patriot,
That is awful and Murtha having been in the military should know from Vietnam that kids can do alot of damage in war. We don’t do that but our enemies do. They indoctrinate their kids from the cradle to kill Americans I believe. What a vicious enemy that our troops are fighting indeed! God Bless all of our troops!!

larkin, I’d like to apologize for my comments about Murtha, but it isn’t going to happen. I’m sorry you take offense as a native Pennsylvanian, but my comments are not directed at you, just your representative. If you’re saying that he DOES represent you in his actions and comments, then my comments apply.
Secondly, the military pays the families of Iraqis killed during any engagement between us and terrorists. Even if we’re engaged in a shootout and an innocent Iraqi drives by and gets capped, we’ll pay for that death. In the Middle East culture, that’s expected. The FACT is that there ARE reports about these payments. What people are trying to do is say that military’s explanation of these payments are lies. So, the citizens of Pennsylvania aren’t being served by their representative Murtha because he isn’t telling them the whole story. Instead, he’s resorting to calling American soldiers and Marines “cold-blooded” killers.
The reason that people in the U.S. have “already taken to calling the Marines, rogues” is because of people like Murtha Focker. The American people only know what the media tells them, unless they’ve been over there. The media is only reporting the negative aspects of this story and sentencing them in the courts of public opinion.
Even if the Marines are found guilty, which they haven’t even been charged yet, I will never apologize for what I’ve said about Murtha because he still convicted them without a trial. He may have been right about the theoretical conviction, but he was wrong about prosecuting it.
I take offense to the Pennsylvania people allowing their representative to continually discredit our combat forces doing what the country has sent them to do. At the very least, our elected officials should give our military the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

larkin, did Congressman Murtha explain to you that there are serious discrepancies in the “witnesses’” stories? That one Iraqi girl has claimed her father was both at the front door when he was shot and in the kitchen? That the same girl has admitted that she knew the IED was going to go off? That the interviews of the witnesses were conducted by a Reuters stringer who is known to have worked with the terrorists? That the Iraqi families are refusing to have the bodies exhumed so that ballistics analysis can be done?
There are a LOT of unanswered questions in this case, yet YOUR Congressman has called the Marines “cold-blooded murderers”.
Next time you see your Congressman, ask him what he thinks of the William Jefferson case. I’ll bet you a year’s pay he’ll say “Let the justice system do its work” or words to that effect. Yet he’s willing to condemn the Marines before they’ve even been charged with a crime.
Can you explain THAT?
Chad
How come I don’t get credit for sending that clip to CJ about a week ago?? Just kidding.
Question becomes, is a HMV able to withstand a couple grenades being thrown at it then? Were there soldiers hurt from this specific incident? And how on God’s green earth do our soldiers know who the “good guys” are and who the “bad guys” are over there (no matter where they might be)?
By the way, Murtha blows…………

“Murtha Focker” – quote from CJ
Holy crap, I totally missed that one. FREAKIN’ FUNNY!!!
It seems like Murtha seems to like at the situation of the Marines as guilty until proven innocent. That isn’t the way our system works.
CJ
Chad, most HMMWV can withstand a grenade thrown. I haven’t heard if any soldiers were injured, but since I didn’t see anyone in the hatch, I’m sure everyone is fine. The enemy of course isn’t going to show (and this was an enemy video) that we probably fired em up after that.
By the way, Patriot added the footnote. He’s new to the blogging thing and hasn’t learned the “hattip” trick yet.
Chad
That is still craziness. Two stinking kids throwing grenades. It is very upsetting. I was listening to a soldier speak the other day on a Discovery (it was a show about a reserve unit from the midwest, sorry I can’t find it) and the soldier was saying how he can drive down the street and walk down the street and not worry about a crazy jumping out and popping him with a gun or IED. I can’t even imagine.
Thanks for the hattip. WAHOO!!! I am famous!!
