In February, the WaPo published an editorial cartoon that was highly offensive to many troops. I pulled my orignal post about the cartoon from my old blog and have posted it to my new spiffy blog. I also posted when WaPo published the letter from the JCS. Now we have another editorial cartoon that bothers me.

Steve Benson of the Arizona Republic drew a cartoon that was published last week. I can’t bring myself to describe the cartoon or publish it. That is how much it bothers me. Please look at Michelle Malkin’s article for the cartoon.

The Eagle, Globe, and Anchor is of the utmost importance to a recruit in boot camp. Recruits are not considered Marines until they are given earn it. Once the Marine leaves boot camp, the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor is the first physical sign that sets you apart from any branch from any country. The EGA is nothing to be taken lightly. Why would a cartoonist take such a scared symbol and morph it into something disgusting is beyond me.

The cartoon rushes to judge not only the Marines under investigation, but the entire Marine Corps from the fresh recruit to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs himself. Benson aligns himself with the likes of Murtha and the left going on the attack using information that may not be true to begin with.

Michelle Malkin also linked contact info for the newspaper. Use it if you feel so inclined.

Update: There is another case of Marine Corps slander today via LGF. CAIR Conducts Email Jihad Against Marines

When will the slander end?

  1. Steve Benson is famous for pissing people off. That’s how he makes his money and that his his claim to fame. Featured cartoonist for the Arizona Republic, known affectionately by some locals as the AZ Repugnant;)

  2. I sent out Michelle Malkin’s story to everyone in my address book. Along with the link to the opinions page of the Arizona Republic. They’ll find out who they shouldn’t mess with!

  3. Cpl M,
These cartoons and symbols disgust me. I sent an e-mail to the editor of the Arizona Republic letting them know that they are degrading our Marines and all the military by printing such garbage.

Thanks for the link to Michelle Malkin’s website. Hope the letters of protest do some good!

  4. Were it not for the one below, the one above wouldn’t exist. To bad these asshats refuse to see that

  5. Hmm no picture…

  6. OK Try this link to see the picture…Sorry CJ http://concretebob.freeservers.com/US_USMC_Flags.jpg

  7. What is the purpose of cartooning like this? To take a biased, opinionated, i.e. non-journalistic stance in a paper that’s supposed to shed itself of that kind of baggage? Maybe it’s absolutely, 100% true! But shouldn’t those details come out in investigation?
