A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE

Iranian Hizbollah says it could make world wide attacks on US and Israeli interests.
TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iran’s Hizbollah, which claims links to the Lebanese group of the same name, said on Tuesday it stood ready to attack Israeli and U.S. interests worldwide.
“We have 2,000 volunteers who have registered since last year,” said Iranian Hizbollah’s spokesman Mojtaba Bigdeli, speaking by telephone from the central seminary city of Qom.
“They have been trained and they can become fully armed. We are ready to dispatch them to every corner of the world to jeopardise Israel and America’s interests. We are only waiting for the Supreme Leader’s green light to take action. If America wants to ignite World War Three … we welcome it,” he said.
As others have said, America won’t be the responsible party for World War Three. Militant Islamic terrorists will be the root cause for World War Three, if in fact a world war does happen. At this point, I can’t rule out the possibility with everything that is going on the Middle East.
World war isn’t anything I particularly want, but perhaps it will serve as a wake up call to countries such as France and Russia who seem to forget what happens when bold actions aren’t taken against enemies of freedom.

The Blue Barn
According to The Neo-Cons the World War three has started.
http://thinkprogress.org/2006/07/16/newt-world-war/ ,.
I agree with you that there is a possibility that this could escalate into a World War.
Be that as it may, I don’t think that it is in the best interests of HALF of the Arab world for World War. Something unprecedented, and in our interest, is that this time the Arab world has actually broke away and has condemed Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon.
I don’t think if this did escalate the United States and some Arab states would let that happen. It’s not in the interest of the United States. If Iran decided to attack, our soldiers in Iraq would be hurt immensely.
The Blue Barn
Also, I think all this World War three talk is to get people scared. Iran has really no means to launch a significant attack, except a ground attack against Us in Iraq. And alls that would do would draw in our allies and be the end of Iran.
Cpl M
“According to the The Neo-Cons. . .” No, that is according to Newt.
Yes, it is in our interest that a good majority of the Arab world condemed Hezbollah. Now we just need them to condem the state sponsors.
I’m not trying to get anyone scared. Just stating what I think could happen. Iran has more up it’s sleeve than just ground attacks. The Irian government is crazy, but not crazy enough to take it’s current course without more than just ground troops.
The Blue Barn
I wasn’t implying you are trying to get people scared, but the Neo-Cons are. It’s a good campaign strategy.
Newt, is a Neo-Con. Other prominent Neo-Cons have also called fora direct attack on Iran. Most notably William Kristol of the Weekly Standard.
Iran really doesn’t have any other way to lainch an attack, a significant attack. They could use their fighter jets.
I guess you are right they may have gas-weapons, but the only way they could use those significantly would be a ground attack. If they used them in airstrikes, it really wouldn’t be significant even enough to launch. Our planes would shoot them down befor they even get close to us.
CJ
I don’t think Iran would ever attack us in Iraq. Because the only ones that would “hurt immensely” would be the Iranians. We’ve got them surrounded. They come into Iraq and we attack simultaneously from two fronts. Then we make the Iranian our 51st state and number one mountain hideaway vacation spot.
The Blue Barn
I would not agree with your assumption of “We got them surrounded”. Iraq is mostly made up of Shia and Iran is mostly made up of Shia. If war broke out, even though the Shia in Iran and the Shia in Iraq are not the best of friends, I would fear they would unite against the foreigners. So, its more, I think, they got us surrounded.
CJ
I disagree. The Shia in Iraq aren’t too keen of the Iranians. yeah, they’re Shia, but they still remember the Iran-Iraq war. I’ve never heard one Shia say a good thing about Iran, and I talked to hundreds of them.
CJ
The US has done more for the Shia than Iran EVER did. They know that and I think they’ll remember that.
The Blue Barn
Well, than that’s reassuring.
Carole
“number one mountain hideaway…” I love it! CJ you have such a way with words.
Cpl M
Blue Barn,
I’m going to ask you to make a big stretch here. Please look outside the liberal talking points, the Daily Kos banter, and past the evening news. A majority of Iraqis are not enemies of the United States. Many have welcomed the troops as they patrol through villages and are happy that Saddam is out of power. I would even venture to say that number of actual Iraqis that attack US forces is rather small. There is no telling how many terroists transplanted themselves from other nations since the begining of the Iraqi campaign.
The Blue Barn
I wouldn’t agree. I think yes that there are some international terrorists that came in because a certain someone failed to secure the border. Be that as it may, most of these peole are people who want us out of theri country.
Cpl M
“Be that as it may, most of these peole are people who want us out of theri [sic] country.”
You seem to have forgotten that Iraq would still be Saddam’s country had we not removed him.
The Blue Barn
Yes, but if you read the policy papers of the architechs of this war. They have never once mentioned Iraqi Freedom or helping the Liberation of Iraq. I would start here:
http://www.newamericancentury.org/ ,.
The goal was to take Saddam out and install a military presence in that region. That’s why there is no exit plan because there is not meant to be one.
Cpl M
How about you provide specific links. I will not waste my time searching an entire site for your point.
The Blue Barn
Well, your just going to have totake my word for it.
Look, the point is the Neo-Cons wanted a military presence in that region and they got it. There is no exit plan becuase we are not ment to leave. We have the largest military bases there, which we are currently building. We are going to have the largest foreign ambassy in the world there.
The Blue Barn
They didn’t really care about the Iraqi people. They did suspect hubrisly, that they would be greeted as liberators with candy and they would erect statues of Bush. There are human rights abuses all over the world, so then why aren’t we invading other countires? Why not invade Cuba?
Cpl M
I don’t take anyone’s word for anything unless I trust them. And I don’t trust you.
This war isn’t about oil as you and other Liberals so love to claim. If it was about oil, I wouldn’t be filling my truck up for $60 a tank. Explain that, please.
And the reason we’re not invading Cuba is because Congress hasn’t authorized the use of military action against them.
The Blue Barn
This is aboout oil. You are just ignoring the facts. The facts are, you need oil to fuel your army. We have a massive miltary machine. If the oil runs out, our army stops. 90 percent of of the oil that is left on the earth is in the Middle East. It’s a fight to the death. To not to somehow have Iraq, with its second largest oil reserves, strategically involved with oil, would be insane.
This isn’t about the price of oil.
Or we are not invading Cuba because they do not sit on the second largest oil reserves in the world.
Cpl M
Rehashing your same argument that doesn’t make sense isn’t going to change my mind. I don’t see how you believe this is about oil when you say this isn’t about the price of oil. Saddam was getting very rich off of Oil for Food. Why in the world would he cut of supply and thus his cash flow? Your oil argument would only make sense if you say Saddam would have stopped oil sales.
And I don’t have an army. I have a Marine Corps. Get it right, please. I didn’t spend twice the amount of time in Recruit Training and conform to tougher standards to be lumped into the Army. Sorry CJ and Patriot, that is one of my little pet peeves.
Sadly, I’m going to have to stop replying to you, Blue. You contribute little or nothing to topic of conversation and have trouble saying anything other than negative things about Iraq and oil. Feel free to comment on my pieces, but don’t hold your breath for a response.

I hate to state the obvious here but on a lot of the Soldiers addresses that I have had, there are three letters and then a number. OIF1, OIF2, OIF3, OIF4. Forgive me but I was under the impression that OIF stood for Operation Iraqi Freedom, Perhaps I’m mistaken. Anybody help me out here?
Cpl M
Sue,
OIF1, OIF2, etc is how the we are breaking down OIF. With each major deployment we add a new number. OIF1 was the first portion in 2003. OIF2 was 2004. OIF3 was 2005. OIF5 is 2006. At least, the Marines are doing it this way.

Thanks Cpl M, I was referring to the fact that in #14 it was stated that the government never said it was about Iraqi Freedom!! Little sarcasm. Sorry!! Been with my guys for close to three years now, so I Do in fact know what it means!! again, my bad!!
Cpl M
DOH! I should have picked up on that. Good one, sue. You got me.
sue
Not a problem!!! he he A little hazard of my tongue!!
