I’m a bit torn by Cindy Sheehan’s recent purchase of land near the Crawford ranch. I haven’t seen anyone say it was SGLI (Service Member’s Group Life Insurance) money or if it was a private policy that she had taken out on Casey at some point. I’m not an expert in private insurance by any means, so please let me know if she was able to collect on a private insurance policy since Casey wasn’t a minor.

Part of me is screaming bloody murder that Cindy would dare use any type of insurance policy on Casey to further her anti-war agenda. The other part is saying what business of mine is it to dictate what is an acceptable way for Cindy to spend any money she received after Casey’s death beyond covering all burial related expenses. Casey now has a grave marker, thus I view Cindy’s burial duties completed.

Cindy has yet to do one thing I approve of, including this land purchase, hence why I am quite torn. I can’t compromise part of my fiscally conservative viewpoint because my military mindset is going completely off the wall. I have a feeling my opinion, or lack thereof, won’t go over too well. Please, let me have it all barrels firing. Perhaps the comments will help me put aside my fiscal ideals just this once.

  1. Cpl M,
Cindy Sheehan does it again. She can’t stand to be out of the limelight for a moment. I’ll bet that the president wishes that she would quit bugging him on his vacation and wishes she would truly “get a life”!

  2. On an unrelated note — is the server move completed? I was trying to access this site from a different computer than usual and was getting the “site moving” post for some reason. Just thought I’d let you know. strobes

  3. As regards to private insurance, a parent can collect on a child’s life insurance at any age if they are the beneficary. In fact, the usual dispersements if there are not live beneficaries go to: spouse, children, parents & siblings…in that order. I can’t think of anything Cindy has done that I approve of. Truthfully, I can’t figure out how such a brave soldier got such a nut-job mom. She’ll probably only be enamored of Texas for the next two years until the presidential estate moves on to another place. I suppose as long as she is here, decent folks will have to abide her strident presence. That is, I don’t think they are planning any colonies on Mars at present.

  4. Miriam, the site is completely moved. If you’re using Firefox to view the page on that computer, you may have to delte the cookie that deals with our site to refresh it. That should fix the problem.

  5. CJ is really talking to strobes, btw. Unless he has an imaginary friend named Miriam which would be quite the coincidence.

  6. Haha, thanks. I did that but I will try again.

  7. Hey M!! In private ins policies I can leave the proceeds to anyone of my choosing as beneficiary. There may be a period of contestability where all death claims are investigated, as to insure no foul play. You cannot benefit if you committed a crime to get the $$$. Otherwise, I could declare you my beneficiary and that is my right…you however cannot buy a policy on me w/o having what is deemed an “insurable interest”.

  8. Funny how you are “torn” about Cindy Sheehan’s right to spend (and in my opinion waste) her money any way she wants to. But hey, when you’re defending a lie, who can expect you to understand real freedom, anyway?

  9. Defending a lie. *chuckle

  10. Sorry I don’t consider freedom a lie, WW. I’m interested to know what you consider real freedom.
