A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
I did a Google on this and could only find .mil sites carrying this news. It’s a shame when our Soldiers receive the nation’s third highest award for bravery that the MSM can’t pick up on it. This is big news! Instead, I’ve heard more about the Sailor who allegedly committed espionage. Both are big deals; only one was covered.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — Three Fort Bragg soldiers were honored Tuesday with the Silver Star — the Army’s third-highest award for valor in combat — for their actions in Afghanistan.
Sgt. 1st Class Bruce Holmes and his team sergeant, Master Sgt. Keith Logsdon, received the medal for a 14-hour battle in a village in southern Afghanistan last year.
Staff Sgt. Matthew Keefe received the medal for a separate battle.
“I went in and did my job. No one expects to go and get a Silver Star, Holmes said.
To them, the medals represent what their team did. “There were guys that did every bit as much as I did that day, Logsdon said.
Twenty-eight other soldiers from 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group received Bronze Star Medals for valor, Purple Hearts and Army Commendation Medals for valor. The awards were for actions during the unit’s deployment to Afghanistan last year.
“These are warriors in every since of the word. On this day, they remind us why we are so proud to be Americans, said Col. Christopher Haas, the 3rd Special Forces Group commander.
Maj. Gen. Thomas R. Csrnko, commanding general of the U.S. Army Special Forces Command, presided over the ceremony and presented the awards.
“Every man on this field is a hero. Because of these men, our freedoms and way of life remain secure, Csrnko said.

Ditto what Carole said, and there is a resource for honors bestowed over at CentCom…I’m gonna start posting updates when they update their site…thanks for giving me the final shove to start doing this Patriot.
God bless Holmes, Logsdon, and Keefe. True American heroes.

That should have made the mainstream news, I completely agree. These heroes actions deserve it.
Just once, I’d like to see something like this on CNN, MSNBC, or FOX.

The story did get out to some local papers (SC-VA-NC) from an AP story that reduced the original by about 70%, and some area TV station sites.
Your point that this story didn’t get the play it deserved stands.

Kudos to them and the other heroes honored that day. Kudos to the Observer for carrying the story and to you for letting us know about it.
The TV news can give the honored dead 15 seconds. They can give our heroes some airtime, too. But at least we have blogs like this to spread the word.
