A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
Hello, everyone. Thank you all for your comments and for all the prayers. Sunday through yesterday felt like one long day filled with lots of pain, but equal amounts of joy. Granny is now with the Lord, and without the pain.
There is one story from all of this that I would like to share. It happened last night after the respirator was removed and morphine was administered to ease her pain. Granny was breathing very hard; so hard that she was wheezing with every breath. I wanted Granny to have the chance to feel the baby kick, so I placed Granny’s hand on Anna’s stomach. Anna said she had never felt the baby move so much in the so little time when Granny’s hand was on her stomach. Granny’s breathing slowed down and the wheezing stopped with each passing second that Granny, Anna, and baby were in contact. I don’t think that was just coincidence. I lead the family in Amazing Grace and soon Granny took her final breath.
I know Granny is here with me smiling as I fight back the tears of sorrow. I do take comfort knowing that she is with the Lord, and keeping a place ready for me and the rest of the family.
I love you, Granny, and I will miss you.

A good, good story for the final moments of her passing. Can’t think of any nicer way than to know the next little family member is strong and active and on his or her way. Turn, turn, turn. God bless you and your family.

That really was a lovely thing to do for your grandmother. A very special way to “pass the torch” in a symbolic way. I’ll be thinking of you and sending prayers for your family. Look forward to hearing from you soon.

I would be surprised if in those few moments, Granny was passing on very important life lessons and blessings to your baby. That connection of life coming full circle was felt by both and I think your baby will grow up with a special connection to her past.

Thank you for sharing this, Cpl M. My sincere sympathy to you and your family. Keeping y’all in my prayers. What’s best for your Granny doesn’t always feel best for her family, though, I know. Yes, you’ll miss her always, but the sharp pain you’re feeling now will eventually ease to good memories. God takes care of us.

The peace of God cheer you and your family in your sorrow. Children are a good sign of life…a life that never ends. Will continue to pray for your family.

CplM, my thoughts and prayers. It has been a long time since I lost my granny, but she is with me always. When I catch myself doing one of my typical male stupid human tricks, I hear her whispering in my ear…she still rights my “ship” when it veers off course.
yours will be with you always.
I can hear her now telling me I should have capitalized that last sentence…
God be with you and yours…and a kiss for that baby…who has already been touched by an angel…

To all of our “Granny”s that have passed on, we miss you deeply.

Cpl M, Somehow I am not surprized you are resting in God’s grace and peace and the assurance you will see Granny again as she is with her Lord. Great Hope! Prayers follow.
