"Here's health to you and to our Corps Which we are proud to serve;

"In many a strife we've fought for life And never lost our nerve.
If the Army and the Navy Ever gaze on Heaven's scenes,
They will find the streets are guarded By United States Marines."

-Third verse of the Marine Corps Hymn

Thank you Cpl Dunham for protecting us here on earth and also from heaven.

[...] Corporal Dunham’s mom and dad are with us today on what would have been this brave young man’s 25th birthday. We remember that the Marine who so freely gave his life was your beloved son. (Applause.) We ask a loving God to comfort you for a loss that can never be replaced. And on this special birthday, in the company of his fellow Marines, I’m proud to announce that our nation will recognize Corporal Jason Dunham’s action with America’s highest decoration for valor, the Medal of Honor. Much more at A Soldier’s Perspective (also where I found the video) and at Blackfive. Also see The Gift of Valor: A War Story–a book about Corporal Dunham’s heroic sacrifice.
An honor well deserved by Corporal Jason L. Dunham.

It is because of men and women like him that we live in a country full of so many freedoms.

I remember reading about Jason in the papers. What an extraordinary man. I've read the Gift of Valor, and even knowing the ending, I still bawled my eyes out. I'm glad to see he's getting this recognition.
