Welcome to Open Briefing: 2 January 2007. The comment section is open to any topic you wish to discuss. Please maintain the level of courtesy expected and everyone should be fine.
Happy New Year, everyone. I’ve been spending lots of time with my new baby and the family that has driven in to meet her. Both sets of grandparents are in town and we are all enjoying the time we’re spending together, especially with Bella! I haven’t had much time to consider a good topic to start out with so it is all up to the first person who comments. Have a great day, everyone.

Karen
Welcome back! So how are you enjoying parenthood? I hope you are doing some of the diaper changes
Miriam
Bella is always a good topic of conversation. Of course, us females may get a bit more into baby discussions than you men might like.
Donna
Happy New Year Cpl M and everyone here!
Little Bella looks so cute and I know that the grandparents are having a wonderful time visiting with her. Happy parenting!!
LL
Well, CJ and Cpl M and I were having a bit of a discussion on parenting induced psychosis. I thought maybe all us parents out there can share stories that have triggered that eye twitch in us.
Here’s one. I posted about this before, but it’s still good for a chuckle. My daughter was outside riding her bike but my little man wanted to stay in. I head off towards the bathroom to take care of business. I’m sitting on the pot when the little man decides that he wants to go out, but I won’t let him until I’m done because I don’t want him to let the dog out accidentally.
So my dear, sweet, obnoxious little boy goes to the front door and hollers out for God and everyone to hear, “Hey Big Monkey (what I call my daughter), I can’t come out cuz mom is going STINKY!!!”
Nice.
I don’t make eye contact with my neighbors anymore.

very funny LL!! Thanks for sharing! I’m sure that convo with CJ and M was just to die from.
Donna
LL that is very funny! They say that kids say the darndest things and I believe it. They say it whether it kills or cures Ha!
LL
Ya’ll are just gonna laugh at my pain and not share your own stories?!? Cruel. Just cruel.
Karen
Poor LL! I have a few white hairs from being a Mom but no stories quite like yours. My Mom however has one from when we were younger. You will have to go back about 40 years when the fashion of the day was to have fur stoles complete with heads. Now Mom didn’t own one of course but a lady at our church did. One of us spoke up during the service and asked our Mom why that lady had a dog around her neck. Poor Mom!
LL
Karen, your poor mother!! There is something about being in a church or funeral. I have another one about my daughter. She was about 5 or so and we were at my grandpa’s funeral. It was heartbreaking for me because I lived with him and my grandma for not quite 2 years. He was like a second father to me. So I’m in the pew bawlin’ my eyes out. It’s me, my husband, my daughter right next to me, and my three sisters down the line.
Then I hear it.
*brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrp*
My daughter farts. And says in this sweet baby voice, ” ‘Scuse me.”
I was ok. Really, I was. Until my dad’s cousin Belva Jean behind me starts laughing. And laughing and laughing and laughing.
You know how there is a fine line between tears and laughter?
Oh man, that was sooooooo bad.
Me and all my sisters were in HYSTERICS and my dad is talking and he thinks we’re crying, and Belva Jean tells me later, “You know, your daughter is always gonna be known as the child that farted at Papaw’s funeral, right?”
Shoot me. Just shoot me now.
sue
LL, I have crossed over, laughing through the tears!! Too funny!!
Karen
At least she excused herself
LL
I know, Karen. I think that’s what put us all over the edge cuz she was sooo polite, but not. quite. polite. enough. to. hold. it. hahaha Bless her heart.
I think these parenting moments are universal. Where your kids do something sooo embarrassing or horrifying and as a mom, you can either freak out or laugh. Since I’m a big laugher all the time, I really find the humor in those Moments.
