A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
I went to Nashville MEPS yesterday to do what they call a reno. That is a renegotiation of my contract to join the Army. I have to do this because my audition tape for the original MOS, 46R Broadcast Journalist, I chose was rejected. I am still going to be a journalist, but just not a broadcast journalist. I have chosen the MOS of 46Q which more like a print journalist. I will still go to Ft Jackson, SC for basic and to Ft Mead for AIT. The thing is, I will not ship to basic till February 20th. I am not happy about the delay in my shipping out, but that is how it works if I want to be a journalist, and I do. Course, I have found a bright light in this delay……. it will give me another 20 days to work out at the gym and have this old body in a bit better shape before I get to basic.
But there is a bit of a spin to all this still. According to the regulations for the 46R Broadcast Journalist, I can submit my audition up to 4 times in 12 months. So when I left the MEPS center, and finding out what was wrong with the first tape, I went straight to the studio and re-recorded my audition. Trying to make suer that I pronounced all the words right and without this great Southern accent that I have was not an easy thing to do. I remember when in college and taking voice lessons, how my vocal coach ways always on me about this accent I have. Course, back then it was a lot worse than it is today. have her and those lesson to thank for that. I am sure that if the audition tape is accepted this time, getting used to speak without the accent on air will get easier as time goes by. But first, we have to see if it is accepted and if there is still a slot open for the MOS. Till then, I am gearing up to ship to basic at the end of February.

See, I told you you’d be a journalist one way or another.
Good luck with your audition/s.

Cindy I’m glad that you’re going to still be able to be a journalist. You’ll do fantastic. I’m glad you’re looking at the later ship date from a positive perspective. Get in there and show those youngsters how it’s done! LOL!

Good luck with the audition! And I’d like to know what’s wrong with a southern accent?? I could listen to one all day – much more interesting than the wonderbread non-accent here in caleeforneyea.

Be sure to tell the objective truth without interference. If it is there, get another job.
