A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
Chaps has an awesome sense of humor. Almost anything can be turned into a barrel of laughs and routinely does. The latest head-shaking chuckle is a product of the rock garden built by Fiz next to the chapel.
I was sitting in my office yesterday afternoon minding my own business when Chaps busts in with the grin meaning he was up to something on his face.
“Cpl M! You know how I said we needed a lawn gnome or pink flamingo for the rock garden?”
I replied, “Um, yes, sir.” I was thinking this conversation was going to take a very fast nose dive. Flashes of dancing lawn gnomes and tacky pink flamingos went through my head. I once had a dream that lawn gnomes and pink flamingos were after me. I’ve never thought of the cliché lawn decorations the same way since that dream.
“Look what I got! It’s a start,” says Chaps as he pulls an inflatable pink flamingo from behind his back. You’ve got to be kidding me. He actually had someone send him a pink flamingo.
“Sir, you need help. Professional help. I’ll make you an appointment, okay?”
He laughed and left.
I recovered from the shock of the pink flamingo there in the flesh, er, plastic later that night and decided the thing needs a name. Anyone have any ideas? Run of the mill names like Bob or Joe just won’t cut it.

Miriam
LOL, I’ve never thought of naming an inflatable pink flamingo…in fact, I haven’t spent much time contemplating that particular bird. A name? Floyd maybe? At least I have good memories of a particularly funny rendition of a Pink Floyd song (in church, no less
).
Karen
That’s a great name Miriam! M if you need anything else for that garden, please let me know!
Tracy
LOL ya gotta love someone with a nutty sense of humor. I am terrible at coming up with clever names, so I’ll leave that to the others.
Are we going to get pictures?
Tracy
I wonder if they sell inflatible garden gnomes? LOL
Beth A.
We had a couple of them thar flamingos wired to the outside deck of our dorm room in college – Farley and Fajita. Occasionally, someone would walk by and ‘find out if they could fly’ (usually on Friday or Sat. nights
) and I’d have to go and rescue one or the other latest victim 4 flights down in the courtyard below. They don’t fly; but they DO survive the crash landing, rather well! Hadn’t thought about those birds in years – lol.
I agree with Miriam and Karen, Floyd is a cool name. Fits well.

Yep, i vote floyd too!
Beth
You know, you might just end up with a small battalion of gnomes to guard the rock garden there, now.
I’m sorely tempted to send some…
Beth
I forgot–I vote for Floyd too!
Carole
Floyd sounds good to me and, maybe Clyde for a garden gnome.
