A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
This is Terri again, hijacking SNAFU’s user name to update you all on The Tanker Brothers Rolling Victory Fast campaign that they’ve been doing for the past year in response to Cindy Sheehag’s purported fast until all the troops come home. It’s been a year since they began this campaign. A year which saw Cindy Sheehag ending her fast in September 2006. The Tanker Brothers have decided that they’ve accomplished what they set out to do, and I was asked by brat to post the message here. They’re asking for Mass fasting on July 9th, to end the campaign with a bang! So everyone, let’s get on Board and join them for the last big Hooaahhh! I’m going to post the post they have up at Tanker Brothers here, so you’ve got the information if you chose to participate.
2006
2007
Since 9 July 2006 the participants of the RVF at Tanker Brothers have volunteered to spend 24 hour periods fasting. They have fasted on four continents. The “rules†of the fast were that the participants could only drink water, tea and coffee – OK, an occasional beer was allowed. The idea of the fast was Master Gunner’s and Cav Tanker’s in response to Cindy Sheehan and the Pinko’s fast called “Until the Troops come home from Iraq†that began on 4 July 2006. Their fast was called off months ago. Cindy Sheehan quit early September 2006.
The first RVF dedication at Tanker Brothers was on 2 September 2006. Since that time a myriad of individuals, organizations, units and causes have been highlighted by various fasters. Master Gunner and Cav Tanker had t shirts designed for those who wanted to visibly show their support. Proceeds from the sale have been donated to Soldiers Angels.

To our amazing military personnel we say – ROLL ON! We are standing beside you all the way.The above was written by one of Tanker Brothers regular readers and sometime contributor~Leta. She didn’t want me to mention that, but she searched through 10 months of dedications in order to write that, so I felt she should be recognized for the effort! (forgive me Leta! lol)
I’d like to add this: I hope we didn’t miss anyone in the list. Look at that list~all of the soldiers, soldiers groups, civilians that work with the troops, and military families we have fasted for. That is an impressive group of people. Even as the fast ends, let’s not forget to think about these people and their sacrifice every day.
July 9th is the Anniversary of the RVF and a great day bring it to an end.
Anyone who would like to fast on that day is welcome to. Please email me at tankerbrothersrecon@gmail.com and let me know you plan to fast so I can get your name up for that day.
Also, anyone that would like a dedication put up for that day, please email that to me also. I will put up ALL dedications.
One more thing~~We have three days open between now and July 9th. June 27, July 6, and July 7. If you can do any of these days please let me know!
I’d like to thank all of you that have fasted, without you we would not have done this for a year!Hoooo ahhhhh!!
~Tracy

On July 4, 2006, I started a new tradition. I stopped eating bread, pizza, potatoes, heavy carbs back in 2003. On July 4, 2006, I began a new tradition – I eat one slice of cheeze pizza in honor of Mike. The story behind this is that on July 4, 1985, I had a few dollar in my pocket and packed a sack lunch and took then 3 year old Mike on the bus / train to downtown Atlanta to watch the 4th July parade. We had a blast – he on my shoulders waving a flag and cheering, after we had a picnic on the sidewalk of Peachtree and West Peachtree. When we got home later that afternoon after a hour plus train/bus ride, he wanted “cheez pitza”, but I didn’t have but two dollars left.
I gathered him up and we walked across the street to the A & P grocery store to buy a $1.50 Chef Boyardee cheese pizza mix. While there, I ran into a young lady who was an acquaintance, and with her was her new roommate, who was standing about 20 feet away. I took one look and fell in love and decided I would marry that young lady, not even knowing her name. We never spoke that day, and as she left and Mike and I checked out. Mike was on my shoulders all the way back across the road and through our apartment project, proudly waving his Chef Boyardee cheese pizza mix, as he exclaimed to everyone we passed “WE GONNA HAVE CHEEZ PITZA.” One year and one day later, Mike was my ring bearer and honorary best man as he stood by me and I married that young lady from the grocery store. She loved Mike like her own, and has grieved deeply at his loss. But for Mike Stokely wanting a Cheez Pitza I would not have met my beautiful and dear wife, now coming up on 21 years July 5.
At 7:00 p.m. July 4, I will begin to fast through 7:00 p.m. July 5 – at which time I will have a 21st anniversay dinner with the beautiful wife Retta, who loved my boy as her own, and me as dearly as one could ever hope.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful story.

Robert ~ every story I’ve ever read that you’ve written about Mike has been so heartwarming. It has been evident from the moment we learned about your great loss that your love for him ran as deep as a father’s love can. Thank you for continuing to share his life with us. You and your family have risen above so much and so many in the manner in which you not only honor Mike but continue to celebrate his life. He was a great man and a great American. It is so obvious why he was…his father and family who surrounded him, nurtured him, loved him and taught him about values and love for humanity.
Tracy
Mr. Stokely, thank you for sharing your beautiful story about Mike.
