Even before General Petraeus had spoken to Congress, Sen. Harry Reid was quick to discredit him as a liar. This is not the first time Reid has put the cart before the horse when spewing hate speech about our troops. In April, before the surge had even gotten 50% complete, Reid was quick undermine our efforts:

“I believe … that this war is lost, and this surge is not accomplishing anything, as is shown by the extreme violence in Iraq this week.”

Now, he is targeting the ranking commander in Iraq. I find it odd that Reid would accuse Petraeus of “cherry picking” the data to support the President. I say that because Reid had nothing but praise for Petraeus earlier when Reid was able to skew the General’s words to suit his political aspirations.

“He has said the war can’t be won militarily. He said that. And he said it. He’s the commander on the ground there.”

Later, he elaborated on this a bit more, saying:

“General Petraeus has said the war cannot be won militarily. He said that. And President Bush is doing nothing economically. He is doing nothing diplomatically. He is not doing even the minimal requested by the Iraq Study Group.

So I — I stick with General Petraeus. I have no doubt that the war cannot be won militarily, and that’s what I said last Thursday and I stick with that.”

So, General Petraeus testified again today, but before he could, Reid released this statement on his weekly radio address:

“Before the report arrives in Congress, it will pass through the White House spin machine, where facts are often ignored or twisted, and intelligence is cherry-picked.”

What happened to “He said that. And he said it. He’s the commander on the ground there?” Why does Harry Reid believe one thing that Petraeus says (when it is agreeable) and not when he says something he doesn’t agree with? Seems to me that Reid is the one “cherry picking” data. I think he needs to wake and start supporting the troops for once in his miserable life and just forget about his hatred for the President for a few seconds.

Once I have had a chance to actually read the transcripts from Petraeus’ testimony, I’ll comment on it. I need time to digest it, analyze it, and research his points.

  1. It seems that Senator Reid and alot of the left are working for Al-Quaida and I’m sure that Usama is cheering him on if he has cave tv!

Reid doesn’t want us to win the war in Iraq no matter what he says. He and others say they are for the troops but how can he call one of our best Generals a liar even before he testified.

  2. I watched the entire thing. For the most part, Congress was eager to act disgracefully and point out their own ignorance in their questions. General Petraeus was a class act and it was interesting and motivating.

  3. I dont know if you happened to catch the General and Mr Crocker with Britt Hume last night, but you are right FlagGazer, BOTH men are a class act. When you listen to the General explain it, it is so obvious, and so simple to understand that I find it amazing that the dems didnt get it. Or perhaps, they just didnt want to.

  4. Will the Congress be charging General Petreaus with Treason and Purjury? According to Senator Reid, the General is a known liar who has purjured himself in front of Congress. It seems to me, that we either need to charge the General with Purjury and remove him from his post, or charge Senator Reid with Treason for attempting to undermine the credibility of the General.

But then again, what does logic have to do with anything.

  5. ha ha ha good one!!

  6. These statements prove that this senator has a serious case of selective hearing, and only finds truth for what he feels will validate his respective opinion. Sadly though, this is one of the reasons why his approval ratings are lower than the president’s. Quiet frankly, the dems just recently got grilled by the general. What’s even worse is the fact that the House was more professional to the general than the senate and if you notice the bulk of the presidential candidates are from the senate. I really wouldn’t want these people becoming the leader of this country if they’re going to treat the general this way.

Especially now with this market, the severity of hardship being seen by our military personnel, and the painstakingly backstabbing partisanship that Congress is displaying, they wouldn’t be able to lead this country with any good judgement whatsoever. Of course most of you would know that I would never agree with the stance that radical anti-war Americans would take on making personal attacks on Bush and blaming the world”s failure to cooperate peacefully on the shoulders of people like Petraeus(or the military).

However, I will agree them that now isn’t the time for a fool to take position in office. While I highly doubt any of the Democrat leaders will win in 2008 and their party will be fitted for their tin foil hats, eventually. The fact that they are trailing second to the Rudy Guiliani is a scary thing to cross one’s mind capable of rational thought. This is because it is apparent that there are enough Americans that adopt their beleagured thought process, and this is no fun for those you would say are rational thinkers and is probably worse for moderates who’ll suffer somewhere in the middle(ie, the actual majority of the country).

Think about it, a majority like Guiliani. He’s probably more popular than the rest of them. However, there is enough people on the otherside to elect of the Democrats that are leading the popular support of their respective party. It’s either we get Guiliani, or one of the 3 stooges; Clinton, Obama, or Edwards. This is the sadest thought to cross my mind recently other than the concern I have hoping my friends in the service come back home from Iraq or wherever they are safely to loved ones.
