A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
The anti-war crowd really is an idiot bunch. More specifically, the “veteran” anti-war crowd is a bunch of idiots. Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW for short) have launched a new campaign called “Befriend A Recruiter”. According to the site, recruiting is low due to their “truth in recruiting” efforts.
I find this highly hypocritical considering what you’ll find if you click around the site.
Call your local recruiter today, and make a new friend! Ask them to pick you up. Tell them you are hungry. Tell them you would like to get a drink and talk about your future. Hang out with them in their office. Call them on their cell and tell them your life story.
Where is the “truth” in lying to recruiters? It seems to me that the only way IVAW can affect recruiting, and the military at large, is to be dishonest and disingenuous. Their hope is that by flooding recruiters with nonsense, the recruiters will be so involved with fraudulent inquiries that they won’t be able to handle the real patriotic Americans that want to serve a higher calling than themselves.
IVAW has no impact except for the fringe far left in this country. Oddly, the IVAW was highly active in bringing attention to the New Orleans area calling for reconstruction there. What they do not realize (remember, they are not very bright people) is that if they succeed in their aim of disrupting recruitment, there will not be any Soldiers around to help in the next major hurricane hitting this country. There will not be Soldiers to help with flooding in the midwest. There won’t be Soldiers to help with the next 9/11 style mass casualty attack. There will not be Soldiers to help the hippies in California through their next earthquake.
If IVAW were a truly veteran’s organization they would know what the consequences of their actions are. I am denigrating them because of their anti-war stance, I am denigrating them because what they are doing will directly affect the national security of this country if realized. Do not get me wrong, this campaign will do absolutely NOTHING to hurt recruiting and really just become something kin to a gnat at dinner time. I think it is important to expose the radicals “veterans” organization for what they really are. They are full of frauds like Jesse MacBeth and “that Navy guy“.
There is something very important you can do to counter this effort. Contact your local recruiting offices and make them aware of these fraudulent practices so they can begin to counter them before it is too late. Send them this post and show them the link to IVAW’s call to arms.
Hattip to the New York chapter of the Gathering of Eagles who are there to counter these morons.

What bothers me to no end about these kinds of groups is that the media think they make good press, because their stories are titillating to their mass audience. and so they give them airtime WAY beyond their relative numbers in or importance to society.

I agree with you. I don’t like the war, but I have yet to see a form of protest that works. And this is counterproductive.

Patriot,
I was thinking the same thing that Frank wrote above. I have seen a few of them on tv spouting their anti-war rhetoric. What is sad though, some people will listen to them because they have been in the military and to Iraq. Hopefully their efforts will not hurt recruiting.

Where is the logic with these people? Is my brain so fried that i can’t think anymore or are these people idiots? I mean, if all of these people who claim to support the troops actually got what they are after, would the troops be better off? Seems to me, that if we cut funding, the troops on the ground in Iraq would not magically end up back home again. They would be on the ground in Iraq without food and ammo. If the recruiters can’t recruit more troops, then the troops on the ground in Iraq either have to stay longer or do more patrols with less people and less sleep. Sounds like a good way to make a mistake and die to me. John Kerry and John Murtha want to make a case that our military regularly commit war crimes. They claim that their experience in combat gives them the right to make those claims. Seems to me, if they knew about that kind of criminal action when they were in combat, then they were obligated by law, to report and prosecute those crimes at that time. Instead, they appear to want to demoralize the troops or make them feel like victoms. Can a team be succesful if they are demoralized? None of this makes since. Is it just me?

I don’t like war either, but that doesn’t make any of the fights any less significant. It doesn’t make any of our wins or loses less important. Of course, as Patriot had said earlier, “they don’t know the consequences of their actions if their goals were to be realized”.

Your are right SP, most warriors hate war more than the protected because we know what it is. Sometimes we have no choice but to go to war. I believe General Pace and a host of other retired officers who say that taking Saddam out was the right thing to do. But even IF we were wrong to do that, we can’t put him back. The anti-war crowd seems bent on proving that we shouldn’t have removed Saddam. Their method seems to be to undermine the President and the war effort. Guess if we fail, then they will claim that they were right all along. Seems to me that if we do fail in Iraq then that failure would be in large part BECAUSE of Harry Reid and his anti-war crowd.
I think this is a lose lose for Harry Reid and company. If we succeed in Iraq it will be in spite of Harry Reid and if we lose, I think it will be because of him. I can’t imagine that Harry is to stupid to see that. It can only be that he thinks the American People are.

Recruiting is down? I will admit we have hit some bumps in the road, but comsidering the National Guard hit its end stregnth goal back in March. As of Aug 30, 2007, we were at 101% strength. My state has exceeded end strength this year by 400, not counting this month.
These idiots will not succeed in their project. most recruiters know if someone is BS’ing them and will not make a commitment. I can usually tell during the first meeting. Hey, I get paid the same if I recruit 1 or 4 a month. I prefer 2-3 to keep me happy and no jackass is going to keep me form doing my job.

Thank you Guard Recruda for saying that. I keep reading that but then I keep hearing these people on the left screaming about how the goals are not being met.
SSG, I think you make a great point. I don’t know if any of you have read Brat’s post over at Tanker Brothers about Code Pink but its really worth a look as long as you aren’t on BP meds!! I just keep wondering what is wrong with these people. I mean we all live on the same planet for Pete’s sake!! Or don’t we??
