I didn’t think the Army made them like this:

You may recall about two months ago I told you about Army Medic, SGT Jill Stevens, who is competing for Miss America. Now that she has been crowned Miss Utah, she needs your help to win the crown.
“America’s Choice! Battle Buddies,I need your help!
This year, America has the opportunity to select a surprise 16th pageant finalist with “Miss America: America’s Choice”, an online competition that allows viewers to vote for their favorite Miss America contestant. I could really use all the support from my battle buddies in the Army family to help me stay in the fight.”
- Sgt. Jill Stevens
To vote for Jill – click the link, click on Utah and follow the directions.
You can vote once each day now through January 26.

Terry,
We haven’t had Specialist5 and Specialist6 ranks since 1985. Specialist7 went away in the 70′s and the rest went away in the mid-60′s. There’s nothing bunk or appalling about a Soldier wanting to do something in his/her free time and if it also happens to bring positive focus on the Army, all the better. It’s no different than a Soldier playing on a professional flag football team or competing at a Tae Kwon Do competition.

As a veteran i find this appauling.. and somewhat propaganda, usually when medics make rank they are specialists, spec 3 spec4 and up.. her rank indicates shes a sgt. and a hard sgt is a leader of men&women… while specialists only work in their trade (medic), therefore i simply disagree with this whole deal and think it is bunk… a cong killer from the 60′s

Wow Terry – a lot of judgement without a lot of facts and you from a war that has suffered most for it. Yet, you dish out bunk of your own.
Sgt Stevens WAS a medic while deployed to Afghanistan in 2004-6 for eighteen months, earning the Combat Medic Badge and hardly the only medic I know who is a SGT. Since her return, she has completed Nursing School with a bachelor’s degree. She is still in the National Guard but has applied for a direct comminssion to the Army after the pageant.
I think Sgt Stevens could teach you a bit about honor and respect, sir.
Terry
thanks cj & fgazer… the wall full of medals at my house speak for the respect and honor i have, my outfit of 21 strong had a kill ratio of 24 per US soldier… many of our outfit were wounded and at that time, and it was not honorable to accept purple hearts.. and we didn’t…. its just my opinion that beauty and killing don’t mix… sorry Sgt Stevens, wish you luck with your choices.. but this ex soldier is dug in and will never fight on another countrys land, but if they come on us soil I got plenty of ammo waiting for them.. a hard SGT from the 60′s who still remembers the first kill!!!!

CJ just looking at some ranks from iraq… seems we still have some specs in the army… perhaps you could be wrong ??? Gee don’t want to offend anyone in todays oh so politically correct govmt. Well i’ve had enough of this… still think its crap….
