Newsweek recently published an interview they did with Gen. David Patraeus. Gen. Patraeus is largely responsible for the current positive security situation we have in Iraq. Newsweek wouldn’t know good leadership if it crawled up their leg and bit the tender parts.
NEWSWEEK: How did the Anbar Awakening movement [of Sunni sheiks allying with U.S. troops] start? How much of that was planned, and how much was luck? [emphasis added]
WHAT?! How much was luck?! Gen. Patraeus is a tremendous leader who deserves more credit than he’ll ever take for the successes we’re enjoying in Iraq today. Patraeus has gotten the raw end of the deal being attacked by people like Murtha, Reid and other defeatists in Congress and in this country. They’ve called him everything from a political hack to liar.
At least we know the roll he’s played in what history will judge as a successful campaign. It’s because of Patraeus’ leadership that Al Anbar is now under Iraqi leadership!!

That one comment says so much. I’ve heard many many Soldiers talk about what a great leader both General Petraeus and LTG Odierno are – leaders by example and leaders who CARE not only about the mission but about all those who are making it happen.
Ya know CJ – I doubt the Newsweek reporter can even spell COIN much less read it, understand any part of it or…I wonder if the reporter even knows that General Petraeus was one of the lead architects of it?
Yes, history WILL document and prove what a great leader, intellect, man of character and vision General Petraeus is. And while many choose not to recognize that now I am so thankful that I am living in a time when we have great men such as he in charge.
