A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
There is not a city in this country (or any other, for that matter) that doesn’t benefit exponentially from the presence of a military base. Governors, mayors, Senators, and Congressman fight and scratch to add troops or a military presence to their localities. Now, one of them wants to bite the hand that feeds it.
ABERDEEN — The Army has refused Aberdeen’s $165,000 bill for security at the Port of Grays Harbor in May when anti-war demonstrators protested a shipment of Fort Lewis equipment.
The deputy chief of staff for resource management for the Army, Linda M. Wilson, wrote the city that the cost of additional manpower and overtime was an unfortunate financial burden placed on the public by the protesters.
The Pentagon official says it wasn’t the military that required the security, so it won’t be refunding the city for its costs.
Mayor Bill Simpson told the city council Wednesday that he’ll appeal to Sen. Patty Murray.
That’s the northeast liberal mindset for you! Naturally, Sen. Patty Murray will try to force the military to pay back the city – she’s a Democrat! Both of Washington’s Senators are Democrats. But, to be fair, Sen Murray is a staunch support of wounded warriors.

I agree with Ms. Wilson. If it weren’t for the protestors, the city wouldn’t have needed the extra police etc. Here’s hoping that they don’t get a penny from the military!

The protestors should be the ones to pay. PERIOD!
