Cindy Sheehan decided to celebrate the 6th anniversary of the opening of Gitmo with murder and rape accusations against the military instead of her normal advocacy to close the prison in Cuba.

The hidden stain of female members of the military being abused by fellow soldiers, Marines, or sailors is one that is regularly ignored or glossed over by a corporate media that rejects all bad news stories from war zones and reports Pentagon propaganda like it is fact: until today, that is.

Ms. Sheehag claims that 80% of US servicewomen are abused or sexually harassed in the military. Who is to blame? People like her own son, apparently. We must all be involved to achieve such wonderfully high numbers. I mean there can’t be a minority troops across all services finding a way to sexually harass 80% of the force! So, we must all be complicit. Sheehag goes on, of course, to use the current issue with the murdered pregnant Marine as a basis for her argument.

Pregnant, 20-year-old Lance Cpl. Maria Frances Lauterbach, who has been missing since she was reported missing by her mother on December 19th has been determined to have been murdered by the father of her child (another Marine) who she had reported for rape. The corporate media is all over this tragic story because they should report it and because Maria is a very pretty, white woman.

Poor Casey must be rolling all over his grave to get out and slap his momma! No, wait; that would just lend credence to her claims. The highest number I can find on the internet is 68%, which occurred during the Clinton years when sexual harassment was supposedly okay. I mean, we lead by example right? Clinton was the model for sexual harassment in the workplace.

The truth is that the military aggressively prosecutes allegations of sexual harassment. We are required to attend annual training in both Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) and Equal Opportunity (EO). We are bombarded with what we can and cannot get away with. Since Sheehag has never served anyone but herself her entire life, she should keep her trap shut and speak of things she knows – like endless marches and pointless attempts to get elected to office.
