My mom and I have been saying this for years. During the first and second world wars silence was crucial everyone was taught to keep their mouths shut, in case the man or woman near then was a spy. What our society seems to have forgotton is how to keep quiet about military matters, its as though our governments and press think that the enemy doesn't have ears or can't understand English or something. Its pure madness. During the first gulf war I used to cringe at what the newspapers were printing, because I knew that the possibility of the enemy getting their hands on these details might put our soliders in danger. Its still happening here in the UK now. Unfortunatly freedom of the press has gone too far in some cases.

ARGH!!!!! Like everyone else who has commented I'm in TOTAL agreement that national security and classified info should NOT be shared among the public. Sadly our nation seems to have more citizens now who have little or no allegiance to OUR nation. If you don't wear a uniform of the US military I DON'T TRUST YOU! OK, maybe I do trust a FEW of our elected and appointed officials and I'm not blinded to the fact that even a few of those who wear a military uniform have loose lips but...security is security and secrets are SECRETS!

Great post CJ.

Safe travels. Hope you didn't get caught up in all of the severe weather yesterday, last night or today.

The one and only time I EVER had a face-to-face with MPI was when an MP in my Ex's unit told me all about something that he shouldn't have. We were in a German club that EVERYONE knew was frequented by US soldiers. He told me about a security mission my Ex was working on at the time and it involved German neo-Nazis and our Gun Club. I told my Ex about it the next day when I saw him again (we were just dating at the time) and I got called up by MPI and hauled into the station to give a statement and all that jazz. Scary. Very scary for a 17 year old. And VERY stupid of that other MP. He put everyone in danger with his talking.

OPSEC and confidential information is labeled that for a reason. I have no tolerance for those who violate.

Good on you, CJ, for bringing it up again. It cannot be hammered home enough.

I'm no McCain fan, but I sure as hell am not going to go criticizing his honorable military service for political gain. That's not just offensive to McCain, it's offensive to all vets. Who is this hack! There's a terrible website called Vietnam Veterans Against McCain which is equally tasteless. As far as leaking classified info, I may have some gripes (well a lot of gripes) about our current administration, but you're not going to see me leaking classified info. That's criminal. Great post CJ!

I am a McCain for president supporter myself as well as a guy who supports what was done in Vietnam. While I may not agree with you on that one point of not supporting McCain, this bugger who spread "classified" info (he probably is lying) makes my blood boil.

I agree too that there should be no leaks where our national security is at stake! Seems these people who do leak info have their own agenda and I agree CJ, it should be stopped!
