Since the company I drive for hauls a lot of stuff for Northop Grumman for them to build out Navy ships, I try to pay attention to what is going on with them. I have made many friends in delivering to the many shipyards across this country. I received an email from a friend of mine that works in one of these ship yards. He is not a spokesperson for NGSS, he is just my friend.

Anyway, I wanted to share his email with ya’ll. But let me warn ya, you are going to be angry after you read it, I know I was.

Thought I’d give you the latest on the New York. Her bottom is wet. She’s sitting in the Mississippi River. She will be christened this Saturday, March 1. That’s where it gets really interesting.

Northrop Grumman has been having one hell of a time trying to find someone to be the keynote speaker. They initially asked President Bush. He declined. Then Robert Gates, the Secretary of Defense, was asked but he slipped on ice and broke his shoulder. Rudolph Guiliani was asked. He kept the company hanging until last Friday when he said refused. In desperation, Gordon England, the Assistant Secretary of Defense, was asked. He accepted. The funny thing is he was going to be there anyway. His wife is the Ship’s Sponsor, the one who smashes the bottle of champagne on the bow and says, “I christen thee New York.”

Trying to find politicians to attend has been harder. Both Senators and all Representatives from New York aren’t attending. Neither is the former Governor, George Pataki, nor the current Governor. Both Senators from Louisiana aren’t coming. The former Louisiana Governor, Kathleen Blanco, declined. The current one also declined but there is a special session of the Louisiana Legislature scheduled. The ONLY politician attending is William Jefferson, the local US Representative, and he is under indictment for accepting bribes. SHEESH!! NYC’s Mayor Bloomberg said he might attend.

This is pretty disgraceful when you consider representatives from New York’s Police and Fire Departments are attending. There are survivors from the World Trade Center also attending, who are paying their own way.

What is their problem?! To busy on the Political kiss-a$$ trail to honor not only the Military, but the victims of 9/11! I am discussed at this! They should ALL be ashamed!!!

  1. I’m sure everyone has seen the emails circulating about how the USS New York was created with steel from the World Trade Center. This is not just any ship being created. It means something. Shame on our politicians, from the local representatives all the way up to President Bush for not finding the time to be there for this. What’s so important that the President can’t be there? He will be participating “in a Joint Press Availability with the Prime Minister of Denmark” at his RANCH!!

Here’s an idea, Mr. President: Invite the Prime Minister of Denmark to the christening of this vessel. Citizens from 91 separate nations died in the attacks of 9/11. Surely Denmark lost someone too!

  2. Lady, you were RIGHT! CJ, I hope you will at least try to tolerate me, but if I were in you in your place, I would have a real problem with it! Many of these people invoked 9/11, when it was to their benefit. Now when it comes time to respect others, for the benefit of others and the memory of others, they’re busy. What does this say about these politicians? It speaks volumes, none of it, good! They should call in Special Forces to “escort” these people to that dedication. We have lost how many people directly in the three events? Then add to this the people who are now the “walking dead” from those events. Now, add the first responders on all levels for that particular day on September 11, 2001 and their continual service since then. I save the BEST, for last. How many people have lost life and limb and some even more, first in Afghanistan and then in Iraq from our Military? What does this say to our Military, past, present and future?

    As always,

  3. Grumpy, you keep preaching the gospel, brother. I’ll be in the pews listening intently!!

  4. This makes me sick to my stomach. Being from New York and losing many friends on Setember 11th this is sickening.

There should nothing more important then our politicians and President being there.

  5. It’s almost like people are ashamed of what happened on 9/11 or they just want to forget about it. Tell that to the families who lost loved ones in those horrific attacks. Yes, shame on our representatives. They should make the time to go commerate this event!!

I hadn’t heard that the New York was constructed out of steel from the World Trade Center. That is so cool and very touching!

  6. I don’t think you understand, I lost friends on 9/11/2001. My Father always taught me, Congress ordered a building built, it was to be a perfect square. As my Father said it many years ago, “Son, this is how we got the Pentagon, you figure it out!.” Just a thought.

  7. I also am from New York and feel sick to my stomach reading about this.

  8. I was going to call my local Senator to complain, but lo and behold, she’s on the campaign trail (I’m from NY as well).
Here’s something on the New York, as well as the other two being built. Named the New York, Arlington and Sommerset (the place in PA where the plane went down).
