I found these charts at Pat Dollard’s site linked from Newsbusters. I think they speak for themselves.

Thanks CJ for the info! Seems we don’t hear about the success of the surge from alot of our reps nowadays since it’s working. At first that was all we heard from capitol hill was that we are loosing in Iraq! Where are all the nay sayers now?!

Not too much of a surprise. The big deal will be if the can withdraw the troops and the level of killing will maintain low. This also doesn’t take into account Al Sadr statement of maintaining a standdown of his militia, which has always be been atributed to much of the violence.
What I’d really like to see from troops deployed is what victory will look like. It might give me a better perspective on the war, which is why I read this blog (and many like it) to begin with. Terrorism will always remain an effective way to get your message across, as it has for many years (recall the Black Hand) whose asasination set off WWI. I have no doubt that it will continue.
What I see for our brave men and women serving in Iraq is that they will steadily hand over a country back to her people and not the dictator it started out with. How this will affect terrorist operations in other countries, I have my doubts. What it will have accomplished is the removal of a dictator who used his vast country’s wealth to wreak terror on its neighbors. For that, we all should be thankful.
Rock Steady, Troops!

Critical Facts
While I am greatful for the trends, if success of the surge is measured through other parameters, the results might not be so encouraging. One example is the government of Iraq – is there a government? That was a “benchmark” touted frequently months and years ago that is not much heard of anymore.
At any rate, I am encouraged by the trends you report and will take that for what it represents – fewer US casualties, at least for the present.

I used to have a life, then I found ASP and became freakishly drawn to saying the dumbest things I could muster up – even though I’m not welcome. [edited by CJ]
