Very sad about the puppy... It is a wonderful thing you guys are doing...
With the Bagdad pups, though... Its hard to imagine what the hell that soldier was thinking...It not only will come back to bite him in the ass, so to speak, but his very conscience, will and may become his worst enemy, one day....Bless you guys...........

Grumpy~

I was trying to make the same point about the signs of a psychopath: it begins with something like pulling the wings off flies, moves on to animal abuse and eventually graduates to harming people. One of the commentors just couldn't agree with that POV, saying, in essence, that if this is a real video with a real, living breathing puppy being tossed off a cliff, we all just need to get a grip becayse we don't know what those guys have dealt with over there. I'm sorry, but I can't agree. If they would treat a defenseless puppy like that, how long before they are mistreating defenseless Iraqis?

CJ, before we start, we all know animals are killed in war. They are sometimes killed or slaughtered for food. They are sometimes killed in the "collateral damage" of warfare. But for this to be true, there must be a much larger objective or the animal is perceived as a "threat." I will not honor these "indviduals" by watching this purported tape of this event. I saw a single still shot of one of these "individuals" holding the pup by the scruff of the neck. Therefore, this shows neither of the criteria have been met. There is one respected website trying to justify this, this is at least what it appears to me. I just may be wrong. I gather you notice, I keep using the term, "individuals", I JUST DO NOT BELIEVE THEY ARE MARINES! Are they contractors or any other branch? I do not know, but the Military and the contractors are both subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice. This would include the loss of certain U.S. Constitutional rights. What do we do with them? I echo "Flag Gazer".

There are two really important questions. What do we do with these two "indviduals"? Why is it important? I believe we should send these two "individuals" for "corrective counseling" or "C.C." for you old farts, C.C.= corrective custody. This would be for a period of absolutely no less than 25 years or longer, if his "counselors" deemed it wise.

Why? I believe there is enough academic research showing the relationship between animal abuse and the degradation of people. This degradation would later present itself as a threat, both physically and psycologically to those around these two. Sadly, the status of the puppy is not the issue. The fact they even taped this event speaks volumes.

Just a thought,

Grumpy

How sad it was to see that video. But I have seen many more soul lifting pictures of American soldiers caring for pets. These made me feelgreat. I am a retired Canadian Infantryman and hope those scum bags are dealt with promptly. We would have in short order.
Love you guys, take care.

Well, one sure fire way to prevent the media from painting all service members in a bad light is for the military to act on the matter. You folks talk a good whipping when deserved - e.g., the expected response to playground incidents. Then let's see the military dish out a good whipping - it's more than deserved here!!

I, too, have read that the Marines have been investigating this, even before it broke in the media. The Marine's family apparently found out that their address had been posted on the internet in connection with the video when some reporters showed up at their door (IIRC, it was the address for the Marine's parents), and there have been death threats made. Just like Abu Ghraib, this will be used to paint ALL service members in a bad light...
