All Posts Information Perspectives May 12 2008

I get a lot of solicitations for links and other things in my inbox. Most of the time I delete them. It’s not that I don’t support their cause or believe in their product, it’s just that I don’t usually have the time to personally respond to each one.

But, today I got an email and for some reason I decided to click on the link and see what it was about. What I found is probably one of the neatest sites I’ve personally come across. It’s called Alltop and helps you “explore your passions by collecting stories from ‘all the top’ sites on the web.”

The thing that caught my eye that I thought you all would be interested in is the military page. One visit to the site and you can see which of your favorite milblogs have put up new content. For those of you that read more than ASP (shame on you!!), instead of clicking to each individual site, you can visit one page and see what’s new. If the milblog you read isn’t on there, just email the site and it’ll be updated. To pare down the list, just click on the “x” next to the blog and *poof* it’s gone. The only downside I can see is that A Soldier’s Perspective is WAAAAAY too far down on the list. Maybe they can fix that if enough of you complain (hint, hint)!! hehe. Just kidding.

The makers of Alltop want to stay away from registration or customization since “We don’t think the world needs another Pageflakes, Netvibes, or Google Reader,” according to Alltop CEO Guy Kawasaki. But, I’ve been to Google Reader and Pageflakes and they aren’t dedicated to simply providing RSS links to favorite milblogs or other interests. It takes a lot more work to add your favorites and Alltop has already done it for you.

P.S. Click around a bit. I loved checking out some of the sites on the Oddities and Dads pages.
