I already get 100% disability for PTSD. A check each month is a much better reward than a piece of tin on a ribbon.

"Now there are fakers, " Really that many? Before I got my disability I was seen by no fewer than a dozen VA doctors with medical degrees as well as three social security doctors for the social security disability. One would really have to be a professional actor to fool so many licensed professionals. BUT, if it is that easy to do, shouldn't we be looking at the licensure and quality of our doctors and phsychologists?????? If they are allegedly so easy to fool, do you really wanting doctoring you and prescribing what could be lethal medications?????

As a Vietnam Veteran that served with the ist Brigade 101st Airborne Division and is diagnosed with PTSD, I do not think I should be awarded a Purple Heart. My illness was caused by several negative experiences I had in Vietnam but I was not physically wounded. I am gratefull however, that the VA has recognised my illness and is compensating me for it.

r.lore i am with you. I am one of those that was rated with ptsd after so many came home and started claiming it just to get out the military. The board handed down 100% to soldiers that I talked to that could not tell you what Iraq looked liked or what part they were in. They gave me a rating and sent me home with a severance pay that I have to pay back to the VA, and the knowledge that if I need medical I can come to the VA. I was not afforded the chance to stay in the military. They said ptsd yougot to go. Now they offer you the chance to stay in, what about us that wanted to continue to serve and fight through the ptsd that were sent home but have to now try to heal fro ptsd and make a living in a world that looks down on you having ptsd. Now not only am i sufforing my family suffors.

Sean are you for real. If you suffored the wounds that you say you have then i'm sure you spen time around soilders in the hospital that you could see no wound on but said to yourself " I never want what he/she has. I too have seen both solders with Ptsd and with physical wounds recieve the PH that should not get it. My unit was being ambushed in Iraq when a scared Officer called in an air strike on our location. While no-one was hurt one soilder was thrown into equipment and went in shock and helicoptered out. This soilder was not only given the PH but also given a rank increase and given the chance to walk around with a PH for suffuring no wound at all. You recieved a flesh wound, but your mind keeps you strong, now imagen your brain being wounded and your body suffering wounds that cant heal.

Infantryman i hear you but I think that before you come to that decision you should know the affects that true ptsd has on a person. If you have ptsd you are wounded by the enemy. While I am sorry that you were shot, I can say that I would trade wounds with you anytime. The time that you spent healng from your wound would be a welcomed relief from the healing that I have goon through. I suffer from it even when I think that I am doing good. I apply for jobs in my field and because I too was infantry you can imagen the types they are, one of the questions they ask is was you affected mentally from the war. They can not legally sak if you have ptsd but they have ways change the question to get the answer, andn once they find out you will be able to see the change in thier view of you. Being shot, I welcome that because you are seen as a hero not as a leapord. Ph no but award me for giving my life to defend this nation, not turn your back on me.

I will discuss my background at a later date. I have read through the majority of the comments above, I agree and disagree with some. I want talk directly to one or the other, maybe in the future I will share more of detailed background of myself. However, you must remember, those of us who have PH 9/10 times suffer from PTSD. For myself, the medal is a reminder of what I did wrong, didn't see, should have assumed, and trained my Marines better.
Now there are fakers, but there are fakers in everything that is life. Hopefully the conversation will keep going. Seriously, for those who say they have PTSD, things like this have been the answer to my issues.

I am a woman with chronic PTSD and just wanted to say that I have personally seen officers and enlisted say that they were grazed by a bullet and recieved a Purple Heart and they are worse off than someone who can never escape the wounds of PTSD, sorry fellow veteran people have already abused the purple heart and that is something they have to live with. God Bless all of you.

I must say to all of you who have served thank you. I am 70% with PTSD and others TBI.
I don't want an award because I let things get to me. I just want to be able to deal.
My head hurts all the time, I take my meds and pain killers but that only helps a little bit. I have tried to od twice to kill the pain. I tried drinking, just got drunk and sick alot. I only speak for myself. I only want one thing from the army.9mm will do.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
Short Term Memory Loss
Frontal Lobe Syndrome
Military Sexual Trauma (MST)
Depressive Disorder
Cognitive Limitations
Ankle Instability
Chronic lower back, right shoulder, right ankle, as well as neck pain as well as cervical spine disease
Panic Disorder
Photophobia
Agoraphobia
Chronic Migraines and headaches
Chronic Asthma/Allergic Rhinitis
Tinnitus as well as some minor hearing loss in the left ear
Degenerative Joint Disease
Gestural Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
Abnormality of the GAIT
Shin Splints
Chronic Insomnia

I went overseas in 2005-2006 and I am still working on paperwork for CAB and may start working on paperwork for a purple heart. I have not been able to work since I got out or was put into IRR and now the unit that is working on my military retirement may be putting me back into reserve status in order to medically retire me out of the military. What do you all think?

PTSD....WOW....there is a word that is passed around a lot in the VA. I myself was a non-combatant COMBATANT. I was an Imagery and Targeting Intelligence Analyst. Life as I know it has changed every since I conducted my first Bomb Damage Assessments as a young airman while conducting Targeting for several of our new airframes. The damage and destruction I saw of not only enemy but the innocent civilians and sometimes our own.......that is damage...I dont care wich way you flip it....but...different than the combatant....War is seen through many sets of lenses.....you dont have to be in theater to feel the pain.....

Just another view.....

Crank...
To the pilots.....we'd say
You got to Spill em to kill em....but we get to check the your damage...so make sure you drill em

Takes on a whole other meaning when the soul gets a hold of the meaning afterward.....

May God rest their Souls Enemy, Civilian, and ALL U.S. Airman/Soldiers/Sailors/and GRUNTS who served.....and lost their lives....

May God Heal the rest of our souls so we can deal with the damage we have caused or we have felt.

PTSD never goes away. But know it gets better with God in your life.
