A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
I just got an email from a fellow 1SG in Afghanistan telling me that Big Brother has blocked ASP from their computers over there!! Guess they didn’t want anyone reading my awards post. I’m sure the Officers responsible will be rewarded with a nice, shiny Bronze Star for doing so.
This continues to amaze me since ASP is frequently approached by DoD, Department of the Army, the White House, and other official government offices to share information with YOU. Yet, we’re too much of a distraction for the troops on the ground in Afghanistan. Sometimes, the leadership just doesn’t get it. That’s okay because I simply subscribed my buddy for the email list and he’ll get our posts as their published anyway!! Block that!! And if you’re reading this, Big Brother, perhaps you can tell me what is so scary about our site here that it needs to be blocked…
From Marcus: I would also like to point out ASP was not blocked for me last year in Iraq for the first couple of months. Then all of a sudden, it was. I couldn’t figure out what had happened and my pings to the network guys didn’t turn up any answers. As quickly as it was blocked, I could hit it again about two months later. Once again my pings to network guys didn’t put a big spotlight on the answer. Big Brother is an interesting beast. . .

CJ, don’t let Big Brother get you down. The smart and agile will always find away around him!

ASP is blocked from my office as well and has been since I’ve worked there. When I first started working there, I could access ASM, but sometime over Thanksgiving they blocked it as well.
