A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
A website called Moment of Thanks was recently launched into the vast World Wide Web! The site is designed to showcase messages of appreciation and support for military personnel. Viewers can post thank you messages in video, photos or text. There are videos from every day Americans as well as some celebrities. This one is my favorite:
The site has posted a goal to deliver 100,000 messages for the troops by the end of the summer. I just finished wading through about 30 minutes of videos and I was impressed. If you’d like to see for yourself how patriotic a country can be or just sit and watch and read tributes to the troops, check out Moment of Thanks. And if you’re up to it, please leave on yourself! I know you’re all creative because otherwise you wouldn’t be reading ASP.

Very addictive site…
Steve
What? True story! We both know that’s how guys talk.
CJ
True…and worse! But, this isn’t the place for those stories. Everyone knows Soldiers, Marines and Sailors have mouths on them but that doesn’t mean we all want to hear them. I like to keep things at the family level here. That’s why no profanity either. I have standards. I, for one, also don’t talk like that.
Steve
I even cleaned it up.
Isaac
I saw Steve’s comment before it was taken down CJ, and I think it was fine, just a bit of fun talk soldiers have with each other. I know things are on a family level but that was fine, maybe clean it up a little but it should remain.
Steve
Thank you Isaac. But I respect the fact it’s CJ’s blog he gets to set the rules of discourse.
I also applaud CJ for not using profanity. As an officer I made a conscious effort to do the same. While I am not offended by others use of vulgar, crude, or profane language, I felt it was important as a leader to demonstrate a good example.
I don’t know who said it but I’ve always liked, “profanity is the crutch of the ignorant”. Or something like that.
Isaac
Steve,
Yes, I agree with you. I am currently in the last few stages of washing my own mouth, although stuff still slips out from time to time.
CJ
Isaac, I simply don’t agree with you this time. Yes, it’s just fun talk, but it was beyond where I want to go. Honestly, there was nothing inherently WRONG with it, but it was to close to my personal line.
If anyone else wants to see the comment, I can forward it to them. It wasn’t profane or disrespectful to any one person and I don’t think Steve meant anything inflammatory in posting it.
I guess since I have to put up with it day in and day out in the military, I don’t want to come “home” to it as well.
Isaac
CJ,
Ok, I understand where you are coming from, it was cutting it close.
