Didn't General Petraeus recently say that he would never use the word 'victory' to describe Iraq and didn't think he ever would?

Oh, and forgive me for thinking that a bunch of Republicans and a former Democrat, now an Independent, support this bill. But, I guess that highlights that Conservatives are the only ones that want to admit success. It would be devastating if Democrats signed onto this since they've already invested so much time and effort to make the war look like such a disaster and slandered General Petraeus's name in the press and poo-poohed the surge that worked.

You caught me, sort of. If Lieberman hadn't been the sponsor, you could actually call me a liar!

CJ,

Based on your previous highly immature response I didn't take you seriously at all. And yes, I only spent a few minutes researching as that is all I felt your response deserved.

I'm still not clear why you are against Obama and Biden for not voting on this bill, but it's okay for McCain to not vote on the amendment that increased GI Bill benefits.

Also, you still haven't explained your 'bipartisan effort' comment regarding resolution 636.

I will read H.R. 2642 and get back to you with further comments.

Fred,

You're not talking to a first grader here. You're talking to a college educated constitutionalist AND law student! Your links are to links of an AMENDMENT (see definition of amendment on your own time) to the ORIGINAL bill that was already passed!! So, follow your own damn links and connect the dots. The GI Bill was passed by the Senate (where McCain voted and Obama did not; neither did Chris Dodd) on September 6, 2007. It was signed by the President on June 30, 2008.

So, you may be good at Google, but you're research abilities are lacking!

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h110-2642#votes

Let me reiterate for those not following here. The GI Bill was contained in H.R. 2642 and S.22 which was voted on by McCain, but not Obama and Biden. Then, the out of control, Democrat-led Congress decided they wanted to add more pork to the already approved G.I. Bill before it hit the President's desk. So, from September 2007 until June 2008, more and more pork was added by both Republicans and Democrats. McCain had already voted on the G.I. Bill, which was passed by both houses of the Senate and only required the President's signature. That is where Fred's bogus link to Amendment #4803 to H.R. 2642 comes in. After seeing that the G.I. Bill was so tremendously supported by virtually everyone, except Obama and Biden, our distinguished politicians though they could slip more crap into it. There were a number of votes and various amendments which failed.

Senator McCain refused to vote on these because the Soldiers' benefits were being used for political purposes at this point. The amendment that McCain didn't agree to was submitted by Mr. Reid and contained the following pork products that had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the G.I. Bill:

$850,000,000 in grants to the Foreign Agricultural Service
$4,000,000 for the Office of the Inspector General
$6,648,000 for 'Salaries and Expenses, General Legal Activities'
$18,621,000 for United States Marshal Service
$247,565,000 for the FBI
$22,666,000 for the DEA
$4,000,000 for the BATF
$9,100,000 for the Federal Prison System
$26,000,000 for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
$400,000,000 for Office of the Director, National Institutes of Health

My gosh, I could really keep going with this!!

CJ,

ROFLMAO!!! Apparently you don't know how to use Google. For your benefit I've included several links to articles mentioning how McCain didn't even bother to show up for the GI Bill vote whereas both Sen. Obama, Sen. Biden, and Sen. Clinton did show up and voted Yea.

So if you want to talk about honesty and integrity, put up or shut up. Or at least do a little research before throwing out wild accusations.

By the way, you didn't address my point that this is not a bipartisan effort as you claimed. I'd be interested, and I'm sure entertained, to hear how you explain that.

Here is the actual vote count:
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=110&session=2&vote=00137

Various articles about how McCain missed the vote:

Fred, if you're going to bring it, BRING IT!! But, when you do, make it honest. McCain did vote for expanding the GI Bill, as I've said numerous times but you obviously weren't paying attention.

You brought up the GI Bill and accused McCain, falsely, of not supporting it, so I'm latching right on, bro!! The <strong>FACT</strong> is that McCain voted for it. Guess which way <strong>Obama</strong> voted for the bill? <strong>"No Vote"</strong>. Guess how <strong>Biden</strong> voted for the bill? <strong>No Vote"</strong>.

McCain even had a parallel bill to Webb's that was submitted to improve and expand the GI Bill. Did Obama submit anything? No. I find it interesting that besides the airport bathroom homosexual Craig, the only people abstaining from a vote to expand the GI Bill have a big "D" next to their name. The only person to vote against it was Republican Jim Demint.

When you're able to regain your integrity come back and try again. Now, you tell me who "truely[sic] wanted to honor our soldiers and vets" with expanded benefits!! I won't hold my breath.

CJ,

What is this bipartisan effort you speak of? Liberman is the only sponsor of this resolution that is not a registered Republican. Considering Liberman was a speaker at the RNC Convention, that makes him close enough.

This proposal is clearly political showmanship on the part of the Republicans and I can't believe you are falling for such a patronizing gesture. If the Republicans truely wanted to honor our soldiers and vets then they would work towards providing better healthcare and benefits. Instead McCain voted against expanding the GI Bill.

Maybe this is McCain's way of making it up to all those soldiers and vet living in squalor and being neglected at Walter Reed. I'm sure it will ease all of their pain and suffering.
