Yeah, An American Carol would not have been appropriate for the kiddos... But, you're still going to go see it, right?? I hope you do!

Kath,

Igor was pretty good. It's starting to sound like I made the right choice based off what people are saying about American Carol. Igor wasn't what I thought it would be as far as a spin off of the Hunchback of Notre Dame or something. The kids loved it.

I appreciate the generalities, but they are less applicable then you might think.
"you'd think we invented slavery" - no, we just continued it. Still doesn't make it right. Just a part of the past we have to deal with.
Crazy liberal ideas have inhabited this country from the start. The very idea for us to revolt against the British was about as liberal (or crazy) as you could get.
Michael Moore enjoys exposing the stupid in hopes of exposing it. I will hold him to continue this mission when Obama gets elected.
As for protesting the war here instead of protesting Sadam, you change what you can and leave what you can't. Sadam was probably #10 on a list of bad guys that needed to be rid of.
Another item for Wordsmith is that this nation wasn't founded on Judeo-Christian values when a large chunk of the founders were Dietist (only beliving in a non-involved God).
I'm glad everyone enjoyed the movie and I look forward to seeing it soon

I quite enjoyed the movie this afternoon. There weren't many people there, but I went to the first show of the day, and the parking lot at the theater wasn't anywhere near being full (and this for 14 screens). Someone actually applauded after the movie ended...

Thanks for linking, CJ.

Just an open question based on Aces review.

David,

The movie is over-the-top. Even Zucker acknowledges in the USA Today review that he thinks Michael Moore loves America. But the movie resonates with conservatives, because there is a certain truth in the underlying message; otherwise, we wouldn't find so much humor in it.

I know Democrats and liberals love their country, too. But it doesn't help when "that side of the fence" harbors those who express their love by embracing Noam Chomsky and Howard Zinn worldviews of America. I've heard Zinn questioned whether or not the world would be better off today if America had not existed, and he said probably. That is anti-American. You'd think America invented slavery.

Why don't anti-war protestors speak out and demonstrate against Saddam? Against Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda? Why us?

Why attack institutions that are a part of our national heritage? (ACLU vs. Judeo-Christian traditions).

Why is it that conservatives tend to applaud our military, while liberals want to portray them as victims and children who had no alternatives to enlistment? Of course I'm speaking in generalities here. But there is always some truth in stereotypes and perceptions. It wasn't just created out of thin air.

The movie especially pokes fun at Hollywood learjet liberals.

David,

I think it's just a generality based on the fact that conservatives typically want to maintain our traditional American values while liberals want to change them and change America into something different. Liberals want government control over everything, which means that Americans lose their freedom to choose for themselves.

I know liberals love this country. That's why they are working so hard to change it.

Why is assumed that only Conservatives love America? Just an open question based on Aces review.
