Ads are fine, but it seems what is really needed is for our congressmen to be informed about what our soldiers need in the field. I have worked for years to get congressmen to look into the likely need for more funding for the Commander's Emergency Response Program. I've had very little luck. I have had very little luck getting other private citizens help me lobby for such funds. It's nice for citizens to contribute to the needs of the troops. That doesn't relieve congress of its need to fund the troops. This is more important than any money you could give them that would be raised by selling ads.

CJ, we've been having the ads in the sidebar at ASM for awhile now and it doesn't seem to cause a problem. Might as well give it a try and see how it goes.

CJ,
I think whatever is best for you is what you should do. Personally I wouldn't mind the ads either. Hope they help!

CJ, I wouldn't mind the ads a bit (as long as they aren't the pain in the butt pop-ups ). And, I would even go along with those as long as it helps!

I think the ads would be much easier than non-profit status.

My two cents,

CJ ~ I think it's a great idea. While I really don't like ads I know they money will all go to great projects so...a few - or a lot - of advertising won't be a bother.

Yeah I havee no problem with a few ads

Like what David said I think you can sign up to google or whatever and they could hook you up or something. It's possible I just don't know exactly how

Google ads are good, although I don't have the stats. Rightvoices uses them. A funny by-product is that Google (and others) use the content of the page to attempt to feed relevant ads. On Rightvoices.com, you see a post of someone bashing Obama (an atrocity in my mind) and then one of his campaign ads flows through right near it.
Non-profit status may entail a lot of overhead in terms of record keeping to make it worthwhile. I've held off on doing that for my computer project.
Best of Luck,
NY-David

Whoops. That comment sounds weird, I meant discolosing how much revenue you make off the ads, not giving me money because Obama is going to get elected and the redistribution of wealth should apply on this blog.
