A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
Emily had mentioned castrating me if I showed the kids a haunted video I recorded last night (even I was creeped out!). Chris said, “I want to be castrated!!” very excitedly. So, we asked him what castrate means.
According to Chris:
Castrate (v): to stay with grandma; to run away; divorcement (he was close here)
One more thing about Chris. I got him a McCain/Palin pin to put on his jacket. He collects pins. When he wore it to school, he showed people to see how they would react and recorded their responses:
“I have no reason to vote for Obama now because of what my dad told me.”
“What?!”
“I’ll throw it in a bonfire.”
“McCain is ugly and old.”
“McCain sucks. I’ll shoot you.”
“Idiot”
“I don’t like McCain. I like Obama better.”
These are fifth graders, people!

Aww Chris is so innocent and it is refreshing.
So sorry that he got such a reaction to his McCain/Palin pin. Sounds like the kids have been brain washed by their parents or the media! I thought the one who said they would shoot Chris was way too much!

I heard a 3rd grader the other day say he wanted Obama because McCain was only going to help rich people. I’m sure he’s hearing that at home. Of course, another 3rd grader wanted McCain to win. I don’t remember what reason the other little boy gave.. By 5th grade, they should be able to start justifying their reasons, if someone teaches that to them. Having a reason is a start, even if it’s a dumb one. Then, hopefully, they’ll start really analyzing and not become like all these Obamatons….

Oh, and did I mention that this kid’s parents are probably in that “rich” category, based on the neighborhood he lives in and the school he attends? Yeah, that’s one of the more well-to-do parts of Austin…

Ok, I’d like to know what Chris was told about castration!! lol (Pictures of his face finding out would be good) And does he still want to participate??
As for the sad statements made by Chris’s classmates, children learn what they live. Parents set the example. I’m not too impressed.

I had a conversation about the election with three thirteen year olds in our carpool yesterday. Two were for McCain, one because her dad runs a couple of small businesses that make above the amount Obama has targeted for more taxes. Her dad has to plan for firing some people, and freezing salaries. He won’t be expanding or hiring more people, which he usually does around Christmas time.
Another, like many Obama supporters, focused totally on his demeanor, calm presence and speeches. I asked where she thought Obama’s cool and calm demeanor would take the country, and if those things would still be important if he leads us in the wrong direction, albeit in a cool and calm manner. She said yes, of course, and the others argued back. Amazingly, we do have children growing up in this country that see things much more clearly than we think they do, and who have their feet planted firmly on the ground (even if their parents don’t.)
