general george s. pattonOne of the main roads I travel daily to get to and from work is called Patton, so I’m constantly reminded of the brilliance and competence of this General of Generals. Patton was a truly outspoken person with strong beliefs and opinions. You either liked him or you didn’t.

I was going to write a bit more about the anniversary of his death until I got an email from a BTR friend, Third Wave Dave. He wrote a good post about remembering Gen. Patton. Please take a moment and CHECK IT OUT. He died 63 years ago today.

  1. Thanks, CJ.

  2. General Patton was brilliant. A student of history. Not only of its successes, but of its failures.

Unfortunately, his kind no longer exist. And we are poorer for it.

  3. Respectfully, Bob, we stand with many such great people. Perhaps not in the same manner, but certainly as brilliant.

    • I mean in the “I don’t give a damn who gets insulted, let’s just get the job done” manner. Too much political correct these days.

Heard a good one today to describe me. I’m “gravitationally challenged”. I started laughing. “No, I’m fat.”

  4. In addition, many will also study about Washington’s bumblings, especially in his ealier years. Lincoln shot off his mouth so much he was challenged to a dual.
Patton’s good and bad points should be put into historical context before being judged. Did he single handedly save western civilization? Not hardly. He certainly got the job done with bravery and distinction.

  5. Ah NY David isn’t it funny how in the retrospect of history we see the bigger picture and are able to put the works of a General, or a President in context with his times. Perhaps in years to come, people will see Bush in a different light also.

  6. Sue: Ouch…Thanks

  7. Dear Sue,
I may learn more after the fact, but my pont is more historical. I certainly have more respect for GHW Bush, then I did and am more critical of Reagan then I used to be. Call it learning or maturity, whatever.
To all on this site, Merry Christmas, or whatever holiday you celebrate this time of year.
    NY-David
