A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
I’ve decided to join the Republican Party. Not so much because I think the Republican Party has all the answers but because no one stands a chance of filling any political seat if they are not one of the big two. In the spirit of Ron Paul, I’ve decided that I can’t very well do much as an independent or Libertarian. Of the two parties, the Republican agenda, especially as it relates to national security, immigration, and military matters (among other issues), more closely resembles my personal beliefs. It’s a difficult decision for me, but I have about five years left in the military and plan on going into state politics when I get out.

Don’t get me wrong, the Republican Party is completely out of control and has lost its way. That is another reason I’m joining – to assert “change” from the inside. I’m also a fan of Michael Steele who recently chosen as the Chairman and already began sweeping changes. I think he’ll bring the party back to its 1860′s and on roots (fiscal conservatism, immigration reform, social conservatism, etc).
While I’ll officially be a Republican, I still consider myself a libertarian – though with a small “L” – and constitutionalist. In the meantime, I won’t stop referring to the party as “Repugnicans” until they prove me otherwise. Just thought I’d make my affiliations clear.
You can now accuse me of being a Repugnican hack. Just make sure you make the distinction that I’m a Conservative Repugnican and not an Arlen Spector Repugnican. I’m sure my dad won’t be happy about this, but I think he’ll understand my reasoning.

CJ,
Agree with you on this, and can not express how badly we need more like you in politics. Which state? It is my 5 yr plan to move from MI to KY… so if able, I will vote for you.

Being a self described Libertarian as well; I have entertained similar thoughts of late.
Out of high school in 1975, I was pretty much a ‘60s radical. When the “revolution†I thought would be necessary to “perfect†our country never occurred, I started identifying with Democrats, but increasingly became apathetically apolitical.
When Reagan ran for office, I started paying attention again, but only because I had a deep seated hatred for the man (kind of a ‘60s radical hangover.) But when Ronnie became our nations President, I forced myself to listen to him, and by the end of his first term I loved him. This led me to defect from the Democratic Party to the Republicans.
By Bush the 1st, due to ideological inconsistencies and lack of cohesiveness, I had lost my taste for the Republican Party. At that time and since, I have been an avid Independent or Libertarian. The problem with that is I haven’t seen any leadership in that province that seems to be credible in terms of obtaining any degree of influence or power in our system.
That brings me back to considering one of the dominant political Party’s to throw down with. This is truly the horns of a dilemma, which course of action would be best. Rejoin the Republican Party, directly engaging neo-Marxist International Progressivism in an effort to assist with bringing the Party back on track; or rejoin the Democrats in a subversive capacity utilizing the methodology the neo-Marxists have employed to co-opt the Democrats and damage the Republican Party from within.
What to do?

I always have voted, but didn’t join a particular party, due to distrust of both. Then I realized I was missing out of part of a process which I hold sacred.
While I don’t think we agree on all things political, I applaud your decision and support your efforts in advancing the conversation for the betterment of the country we both love.
(As you can see, I’m practicing to be your speech writer…).
