Sounds reasonable. I thought that we had already "knocked out" the main training camps and chased OBL to Pakistan some time ago.

My question then is, do we have to stay there until they stop rebuilding the camps and OBL comes out of hiding?

I think the Democrates had it wrong. Iraq isn't Vietnam but Afghanistan might be.

Maybe it is time for a quick "shock and awe" and then to pull our troops back out of Afghanistan.

You are correct, we did have other options for WWII. We were already involved in supplying the British and taking hits from the Germans off our shores as far back as '39. The Pacific war was started, courtesy of the Japanese, although not unexpected.
Bob is right, Afghanistan was de-focused and the effort put into Iraq. Our goals for Afghanistan can only be to find OBL and knock out the training camps. We can't expect to have the same outcome as Iraq. They hadn't had a regular government in over a decade and have nowhere the resources that Iraq has, except for the opium exports.

Please forgive me if I sound contentious or stupid. But I didn't see a mission statement.

What are your goals for Afghanistan now? Do you want it as secure as Iraq is now?

BTW, some people think we had other options for WWII.

WWII, we didn't have much of a choice. Completely different situation.

We left Afghanistan unfinished. Most of the country was unsecured. We should have finished, including getting that monster. We should have finished there first, then gone into Iraq.

Bob, you seem to think that there is something else that we should have done and/or still can do in Afghanistan. Can you state the mission you propose for me?

BTW, we opened a two front war in WWII was that another "classic strategic blunder"? ... just asking ...

I have an opinion on Afghanistan. A lot of people don't like it.

We left that job unfinished. We jumped into Iraq WAY too soon. We should have finished Afghanistan first, then went into Iraq. of course, I don't agree that we should have been in Iraq at all, but...

We committed a classic strategic blunder. We opened up a two front war.

An issue that some of the BHO supporters seem to forget. Why is it that when BHO does something, its God's call, but when Bush does the same thing, they cry heresy?
