Having finished both phases now of the Army’ Suicide Prevention initiative, the topic is fresh on my mind as is the interest in curbing it.  As the media continues to hype the Swine Flu epidemic and we see the loss of life in our wars, conflicts in Iran, etc… do we really pay attention as a country to losing so many lives to suicide?

While studying a recent report on gun deaths in America, I blogged about Alabama being 2nd on that list.  Alarmingly, we had more suicides (400) in 2006 than we had homicides (333).  And those are just the gun related deaths, not any other form of suicide.  That’s a problem if you ask me.  I believe that this problem qualifies as much for epidemic status as anything.
