BUMP: I wanted to bump this because this is getting worse. As you can see from the comments, this is an active scam that people need to be aware of. In addition to comments, I continue to receive emails about what to do if you are targeted.
Every now and then I feel like I’ve made a difference in someone’s life as a result of something I’ve written on this site. I started the Nigerian Scam posts to poke fun at these and bring attention to their practices. Well, yesterday I got an email from someone who came very close to being scammed by these people. Thankfully, she found this site and contacted me before going any further. She gave me permission to share her experience and emails since this is a military related one I haven’t seen yet.

I’ve highlighted some common indicators that this email or promotion is a scam. Any self respecting company will not send out such unprofessional communication. Additionally, the entire last parage lacks virtually any punctuation – another tip-off. Finally, if a company has to say “all information collected will not be used for any illegal activity”, it is probably being used for just that!! This email could easily influence those who are adamant about supporting troops and constantly looking for ways to do so, but don’t fall for it.
After responding to the email, our reader got the following email:

DING DING DING!! All kinds of tipoffs that this is a scam here. Here’s how these Nigerian scammers work. They find unsuspecting fools like “Kim Gattis” and nurture a relationship of trust. Then, one day, they come up with a story and ask for their help with a business since they are not in the country. Or they may use a sob story about how they have nothing or they’re trying to create change in their corrupt government. The person, in this case Kim, agrees to collect money on their behalf and send it to them later. What this person doesn’t realize is that SHE is the one committing fraud.
The last thing these scammers wants you to see is a Nigeria connection. That is why they use American surrogates. The next tipoff is that the sender must send the money via Western Union or some other wiring company. Having to send a payment like any other real business mean they would have to give out an address that can be checked and cross-referenced. Finally, extensive use of all caps in an email is another tip-off. All emails of this sort should come from an official source. These emails came from a Yahoo account, not from a telex.com or similiar official email. Telex Incorporated is an actual company, but does not provide the services mentioned in the email.
Thankfully, this individual did not go beyond giving her name, address, and phone number before finding us. If you find yourself in a similar situation, here is some advice:
1) Do NOT give out any more personal information, especially birthdates and SSN
2) Keep all correspondence, including your responses someplace safe
3) If you receive standard mail at your address from anyone associated with this scam, DO NOT OPEN it. Contact your local FBI office and/or Postal Service Postmaster to initiate charges for mail fraud.
4) If you receive a phone call from anyone associated with this scam, write down the number they are calling from. If you do not have caller ID, call the phone company and ask them to track the call you just received. At a minimum, you should be able to get a number they called from. Give this information to the FBI as well.
5) If you continue to get harrassing calls, change your number.
6) Relax. These people are in Africa and cannot touch you. They may seem scary, but they’re 95 pounds of skin and bones living in a mud hut with a recycled early 90′s computer trying to get something for nothing. If you ever truly feel threatened, contact the police.
7) NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER send money to anyone that contacts YOU through email if you did not sign up for their service beforehand!! I can’t stress this enough. As a matter of fact, don’t even do business with anyone contacting you by email.
Be aware of anyone claiming to love you and then starts asking you for money. A real man will pay his own way to see you, period. Yes, that goes for those legitimate relationship as well!

Im just wondering if he is using some poor legit soldiers idenity.I am still talking to him just for fun, but will never send money. He told me he would never ask me for money, so whats up with that. omg..I am a fool..richardson fowler has had nearly £1500 out of me for his flight home and replacement now he has told me I am his next of kin and to get his retirement fund I have to pay £5000 to release it before he can come home to marry me,I am still talking to him the son of a bitch…he phones me every day and talkes to me on lone all the time…. what a fool I am and I have pictures of him…says he is german/american..I can speak some german and he can answer me and understand what am saying..

I’m right there with you Regina. A military scammer got my profile from Facebook & fell in love with my picture. The rest is pretty standard with what everyone else is reporting. I IM’d him for a couple of weeks just to see how far it went and, yes, it stroked my ego because out of the blue this soldier wanted little old ME. I almost fell for the scam and did provide my address & phone# so he could send me a gift he picked up in a bazaar. MY BAD! Synapses started to ping but I ignored them. When he finally asked for money to setup military phone communications I knew what I was dealing with, and was he pissed when I refused to send $$. My BFF is a military wife who wrote this guy an email explaining true military protocol & she hasn’t gotten as response. I got a short, scathing IM from him & haven’t heard zip since. I truely wish I hadn’t given out my address/phone but it can’t be undone. Don’t know what to do about it either. If you hear anything, plez forward. Thanks.

Oh my GOD!!! lol…I am so incredibly lucky to have found this site!!! I am just laughing my head off right now… I cannot believe it…I went into a dating site and actually managed to find myself two scammers lol, one of them was supposed to get my account number and the other was supposed to communicate with me through army telex…lol…I got both scams at the same time…wow!!!!Well, but don’t worry, I never sent any information whatsoever, what i did do was search the internet for more accurate information on these things. Of course the one that asked for my account number and details I knew right then it was a scam, the other one I’m still in touch with him, but of course after this very useful information I won’t fall for it…lol. THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH INDEED!!!!

I am realizing that I have been contacted by one of the scammers. He says that he is an Army Capt. 3rd Squadron, Mosul, Iraq. He has pics of himself (or whoever he is supposed to be). He gave me a very very brief family history (which I suppose is to make him more believable). After the first day of talking, he began saying he loves and such. He is constant with the compliments and begging me to buy the Telex Plan so that we can talk. He has used every ploy to get me to do so. He has tried the “sweet” talk to the “shame” on you talk. I have found a free way to talk, yet he does not even want to try this. I know it is a scam … but HOW do I help stop this type of scam. I know of one girl that has already fallen for his (yes, this very same supposed Capt.) trickery.
I have figured out (through my conversations with this Capt) that he victimizes older, single women. He thinks they are more vulnerable and cusseptable to his lies.
SOOOO .. if anyone know who I can contact or what I need to do to make sure that no one else is a victim to this horrible parlor trick, please let me know.

I have been talking to a Jose Prescott in Iraq also. He is a Captain also. He says he is in Jalalabad. But I have my suspisions. He has not asked me to get him a TELEX phone or money but I have many red flags going up. I am thinking about dropping his friendship. All I got to say is be careful all.

Hi I got chatting to a US soldier on facebook, John Carrick who loved me from the start lol but I needed to send money to military connections and pay $455.00 lol no way!! there are at leased three John Carricks with the same photo, of some poor soldier called Adam Lingo I did some reserch myself and Adam is a real soldier but his name and picture have been used before! so don’t send anything!!!

Has anyone heard of a Daniel Williamson. I have been talking with him and he indicates that he is a military contractor in Baghdad, Iraq. He hasn’t asked for money but rather a care package (clothes, skin care, photos,….). Very smooth and very believable, almost. Just some inconsistencies in his story. Almost sent him a package until he started asking for a cell phone and if I had a camcorder, to send vidoes and pictures of myself. He indicated he and the men he worked with lost most of their belongings in a bomb explosion.
Suggestions? I don’t think I gave him enough personal information, but I am not sure and don’t want to see him ruin my credit reputation.

Please let me know how things turned out for you – I have been chatting to both guys for a few weeks now – no money will leave my pocket – but it is awful how they can get away with this

Hello I too conversed with an Adam Lingo, supposed un peacekeeping……..who required me to send him money to puchase a pc to chat at will…………….i got the whole love/guilt trip . Realised he was a scammer, didn’t even sound american…………since blocked him and deleted all contact of him….he also goes under Albert Weisten.
What a shame the real guys are being let down buy these low lifes claiming to serve their country. Be wary of a Ferris Marshal also.same deal……….ugh

well here is another name for ya…Coffey Janie Lingo…also a soldier. poems make him seem like the perfect man, but after the 2nd response It was clear its all scripted and impersonal as he spent more time writing these essays of how great he was…He contacted me on myspace as if it was a dating website. I told him I dont date from the website and he wanted me to give him my personal email.. same thing the guy in the pictures has LINGO on the uniform but I noticed on the oppisite side was blurred out..I new somthing was up…

Well the scams continue with Mr David Lingo now using David Hotsniper he totally sucked me in and what an arse the poems and sad storys he told me I also have photos of him and his so called daughter??????? Anyway is there something we can do to stop this???????? I have some many emails he sent from the commander to me can i not use these for some evidence?????

I’m glad I found this site as well, I had a Sergeant (I doubt it now) contact from the Army thru myspace and we started chatting on yahoo IM and he told me that in order to talk to him I had get this very same phone service. I thought it was odd when I got the email and it had the mistakes in it, a professional company does not send letters out like that. Thankfully, I didn’t respond to the letter and googled the name and found a number of websites warning people of this scam. It is quite pathetic that people impersonate our military personnel who are deployed. They should be prosecuted! And the email I got came from an email account at aol.com.

In addition, the person who contacted me actually gave me his rank, division, etc and I googled it and found information on it in addition to a photograph of what was supposed to be him. It makes me sick to think that someone would assume the identity of a deployed soldier and do this. Isn’t there some kind of law against this?

Here’s a good one, Cpt. Brad Strickland of the U.S.ARMY. requested I make the effort to buy this telsat program, so we could see each other as we talk. I was a fool, and did not do my homework before sending them $910.00 dllrs for this system. Come to find out the system failed due to low reception in my area. Now I’m out $910.00
Later he came up with will since this failed, request for me to come home. you will have to pay $12,500.00 (refunable) with in 48hrs of my arrival to you. Please make your best effort to bring me home, if not I will be deployed to Iraq, where I could be killed in combat. I stated to do some homework where he then got very upset, and started to threaten me. Thanks to me brothe who is the UNITED STATES AIR FORCE, he took it upon himself also do some research, and stopped me before it was too late. thanks to my brother he saved from from a $12,500.00 debit.

I have been talking to a captain on a dating site and have got to know him,he sweet talked me right from the get go,then it was ” Honey to further our relationship your going to have to contact Texas Telex connection office .So i did and back it came saying yes if you pay £450 and when i told him i could not afford too,then came the sob story!.Ever trick you can think of he tried it ,tried to make me feel bad about him being out there while he was missing me .I have reported it to the FBI ! any suggestions on what i do next ? hes still talking away at me !

Thankyou as i am in England i was not too sure what to do, i emailed the FBI and as i was suspect about this from the third time i spoke to him i saved the messages and have passed them over to the FBI as well.The next time he comes to chat i will confront him by saying did you know this is a scam and if he starts to make excuses and gos then i will know for sure.And if that happens will notify the Dating site that i meet him on to let them know as well.thanks for the advice CJ

Pretty sure I’m being scammed, anyone heard of Bruce Collins (brc.collins@hotmail.com)? Says he’s just working for British Army and at base camp in Kabul. Says he is something to dowith security softwear, he’s freelance currently working for army. After two weeks has declared his undying love for me then said he could get transit leave but I had to request it by sending email to sgt.jamesanderson@military-services.com. If approved there would be a £1000 notary fee for this. Said he couldn’t pay it as had no access to his own bank account while there (military protocol don’t you know … lol!!). Anyway, I saw this site, told him I wasn’t comfortable with that so asked him to ask his mum to do the email etc. Said he wouldn’t do that as this meant to be about “us”. Thing is I was the one that contacted him on Match.com first, I fell for his charm but when money mentioned my blood ran cold. I have pics of him (supposedly him), who can I send them to to see if others have fallen for his story too. I need to let Match know if this is a scam like I believe it is. I’m in UK.

Hi linsay! I am absolutely sure that Bruce Collins is the same man as the man who I have loved for eight months and who also uses the name Jenn Smith. Jenn told me that he is from Costa Mesa California. I found a site today when I googled the name of Bruce, when I discover that the photo was given to me by Jenn is the same photo that is on Bruce Collins, but Bruce also has a different address bruce_collins@ymail.com.

He is very plausible and has lots of detailed info like the 9 american personnel who died last week – felt so sorry for him!!! He’s not been in contact for 24 hours which is unusual but will keep you informed. He also said his father died when he was 13 and his mother has remarried and he has a younger half sister. Update – just spoke to him on line and he’s appauled at the accussations! When I asked him to explain and give me proof he became indignant and signed off. Just spoke to the police who weren’t any help as I haven’t lost any money – just gave me a website to report it. I’m going to speak to the army tomorrow as the paperwork they are using is using the Bristish Army logo. Thought I’d feel better actually telling him I know, but just feel foolish for falling for it.

I guess I should have known better but I fell for it as well. Hours of chatting, talk about a future together, even sent him a parcel to Kabul!!! bet it never arrives and gets ‘lost in the post’!!! He says he’s Bruce James Collins IT consultant working in Camp Bastion. Asked me to fill in leave forms so he can come back early to be with me. Didn’t sound right so did some searching today and found this. Thankfully no money actually requested though he did mention a fee at some point – which I would never have paid. Says he has a 12 year old son Alex and he lives in Allerton, Mersyside. Lovely pics which I’m also happy to share. Gutted, but relieved I found out now. Take care people!

Your article sounds greta as I never knew this kind of thing existed but obviously am greatful for my suspicious nature and the internet!!! My story is slightly different as Bruce Collins does not pretend to be in the forces or American but an englishman working as an IT consultant for the army in camp Bastion, kabul. Very plausible with lots of details about what’s going on there. Only got suspicious when he asked me to fill in paperwork to get him home early. I did this but something niggled and I did some inverstigagting and found this site. They are clearly changing stories as the military ones are being forcused on by the media. If you want my story for the articel I’m more than happy as I don’t want people to get fooled like I did. Didn’t loose anything except my time and a parcel of coffee and chocolate sent to Kabul (hope somebody in camp bastion enjoyed it) but did feel foolish for believing his guff.

I too, have come across Captain Jack Williams supposedly in Afghanistan – but the plot thickens as I have also contact with a Captain Jack Lingo supposedly in Somalia. It is the Jack (in Somalia) who has been urguing me to get the satellite comms for us – so that “we can really be together as I can be there for him whenever he needs me”. Like others girls above – I said I didn’t have the money and couldn’t do it – the replies varied from guilt trips to anger and rudeness, then quick apologies and never ending love. I say the plot thickens, because Jack (in Afghanistan) sent me a photo – strangely received a few days previously from Jack (in Somalia) – when I pointed out that the name on one of the soldier’s jacket was Lingo – he laughed and said that was his last name – Captain Jack Williams Lingo. The dating site where I met these guys also had 3 other guys using Jack (in Somalia)’s photo!!! When I pointed this out to Jack (in Somalia) he wanted me to report it and was quite upset. As of now- Jack in Afghanistan hasn’t actually asked for anything – but I think I will just wait and see what hapens and when it does !!!! Watch this space. Where should I report this – they are all saying they are american soldiers wanting to return to UK because they have family here.

I have contacted the dating site where I met these guys DateTheUK.com and they have blocked them – but they still crop up again and again – each time with a slightly different profile – but using the same photos !! Not very clever are they ?? I keep on informing the site and they remove them with gratitude. I am making it my mission to keep browsing and seeking them out – We have to stick together girls – don’t be taken in by sweet talk and promises of everlasting love and devotion.

Yes I have heard of Lt Col Kenneth Reed. I/M as I write this email. Any time you hear Africa mentioned run for the hills. He told me that he is a widow he has a son that goes to school in Africa. This is not the first time this has happened to me. I met two others on the military site they all are widows and all had kids. I also got one on a site that I was on looking for a roommate when moving to Florida. They also bring up that they are in the texttile and gold business. This Kenneth Reed has tryed to get me to send money for the TS2 and now says if I want to see him for x-mas I need to pay and then will get reimbersed by the government when he gets here. They all have said that they loved me and wanted to marry me. I just got done talking with him. He is waiting for me to come back on to chat more. How do they know so much about these websites. He gave me this website milits2dpt@usa.com. I wrote to them and they sent me the info I needed to send the money and how it works. Ts2 radio sat. He also said that he is in Kabul Afganistan in Camp Eggers. How do they get all this info and were do they get these pictures of all these men. It is really scary. So do I confront him or just block him. I did confront one guy after he told me he was an engineer but is now in the texttile business so I told him that he must have alot of relitives in the same business and I knew what he was up to. He then disappeared. Also have had some tell me that they are a missionary and they run a orphanage and would love to have you been apart of it. Just send money. What a scam. As any regular reader here can tell you, ANY American military (or British)troops in Iraq or Afghanistan can find ways to call you from there. They don’t need your money or any fancy telex system. How do I know this? Because I have had calls from both places by Americans. They have phone cards, and they have access to phone (and computer VoIP) systems.
Tip #1 and 2 and 3 etc. The minute they ask YOU to send them money, they are a FAKE! End of story.
The first time I ever got an email from a “US soldier” asking for money, I reported them to the US military, who then confirmed that this person does not exist. Imagine that!
Bottom line, NO soldier servng anywhere in the world needs YOUR money to call you. Plain and simple..

Spotty, that is a scam as well. Please know that if ANY Soldier, real or fake, asks you to purchase a special communications means, it’s a scam. Soldiers have all kinds of access to phones and internet. If they say they’re in a remote area, no telecom is going to fix that. Good question though.

Absolutely a scam! I have heard of Ts2, telex, armytelex, military telex and lots of other so-called secure communications for us girls to speak with soldiers abroad – it is a scam – don’t do it!!! You will lose out and have your heart broken as well. They set up a number of emails which look plausible, but are probably them just trying to make it look official – with military logos. I even had a “colonel” congratulating me on “supporting our boys” and offering me a discount when i said i couldn’t afford it. It is deinitely a scam. DON’T DO IT

The name of the soldier I was in touch with is Anthony Brian. Very hansome pics with middle eastern looks or maybe he really is south east American?? The pic could be from anywhere. He said he was from Georgia’s Tybee Island US. He makes out he is serving in Erbil in Iraq. Said he was 39 but looks younger. He is good at first but the flaws soon start to show.
Would be good to share photos on here if possible. This guy sends dressing up pics with bullet proof vest and then full US uniform as well as more relaxed pics with dog tags showing over a tight blue t-shirt. The green military vest on dressing up pics looks fake though. He didn’t get any money but I did send my address details with phone number. He was clever and had me thinking he was paying for it and I only needed to give some of his details and along with mine. Said his visa had expired later so asked if i’d pay. I am a little worried about this and would like to know if there will be any come back??

I am still reeling after a 3and a half month relationship.I paid for the phone line, believing it was a security risk for him to have a normal phone in Iraq.He called me every day, emailed AND used msn,until I was brainwashed by his affection.
I was about to pay for his “relase”on leave, had filled in some forms which when i looked closely it had typing errors and used a very childish font…not as expected by u.S. defense.

Has anyone heard of a Sgt, Brad Stanford, US army based in Iraq?? He contacted me thru a local dating website on my first day of joining, it took me a couple of days to reply to his supposedly private e-mail address, chatted for a week thru Yahoo IM, and then bang said it would so lovely to hear my voice blah blah blah, so he wanted me to send an e-mail to MILITARY CONNECTION wirlessphonet@usa,com, which I did, asking for details on how to obtain secure line to a friend in Iraq in Camp Adder tallil, they responded with his name and rank on it, I didn’t mention name first or last, that’s when I started waking up, and also asking me for £240 to set this line up payable to Western Union to a agent SARAH SMITH.
I phoned customer services and they were brill, and basically said “don’t do it” sounds like an illegal transactions in the making.
Now I was so alerted, have still been chatting to this so called Brad and said to him about this, and he blames the IT men out there, and says he smells a rat ha ha, bet he does, now I still chat to him, it gives me half an hour of endless fun!!!
I have contacted the police who were very interested, and have advised me to print off all communications with him, which I have done.
Also contacted the dating site, they not really interested to one complaint, but I now know of four other woman on this site, who have also been involved like this,all by different calling men, and one woman has actually lost £5000.
They are so clever, but they, need to go and stand on a land mine, pinching some soldier identity who is fighting for their country,

Hi Michaella, i think the best advice is keep an open mind at this point. However if you are corresponding via e mail how is the spelling and grammar. That is a big give a way. Most of these guys don’t seem to be able to really converse well in English and their spelling tends to be pretty bad. Bit childish. If your gut instinct is telling you that something doesn’t feel quite right then listen to it. Just be cautious, and try not to get drawn into a situation if it makes you feel uncomfortable.

Lorraine this guy ur talking about is on facebook and myspace with the same name u mentioned above. He has asked me to be a friend on facebook and I accepted it. He says that he loves my pic and that he has a daughter being taken care of by his aunt in UK. That he is a Captain in the US military. He says he is in Pakistan and that he can’t text me but on facebook messages it shows the message came from a mobile phone though. He says they can’t have mobile phones there and that he is using a sattelite phone to contact me and He says he wants to call me but I refused and told him that I wasnt ready for him to call me yet. He says that the time difference is 10 hours apart. He says he wants to be with me and wants to start a business with me. You should check it out and see if he is the same man ur talking about. He has a lot of women friends that he is making on facebook and when i questioned it he just says they liked the tattoos he has which run up and down both arms. His profile says his birthday is APRIL 2, 1966 & that his email address is bondclark@ymail.com

Update ladies on sgt brad Stanford! I had a lengthy conversation with him tonight where I questioned him on lots of matters. I told him I believed he was not who he says but he replied by saying he would need to speak to his bosses as his reputation and career were being tarnished – sure! I questioned him about the telex link and he says they arent allowed to use it any more- convenient! He also decided he no longer wants to communicate with me until he comes home – he can’t give me a date apparently it’s top secret – sure! He clearly knows I have him worked out so others be careful he is a con.

I am dealing with the same, here! From singlesnet.com… CAPTAIN CURTIS JONES, IRAQ, ARMY. I have not reported anything, but you can BET I will! He seemed totally sweet but when I called him out on it (ie asking ME to pay when he said he had alot of money from an inheritance – just no internet banking because, get this: He LOST ALOT OF MONEY. No kidding.)
Anyway- he said he was special forces, and cannot use skype (said it was scrambled) or calling cards or write a real letter. He only had ONE picture, though it could be real, it probably isn’t. Cute guy, 39, He has a gmail account and yahoo messenger, and said his commander uses the phone system to call his wife here in the US, it’s classified, blah, blah, blah. I have strung him along for a week or so now while I researched this (so glad I found this specific site today). He knows I am suspicious at this point, but told me today that “they take installments, just read it again, please” (aol email link he sent me came from from TS2 / submit moneygram to BRANDY KERSEY, Port Orange, Florida). This woman is listed on myspace, for whatever that is worth. His name turns up nothing. He has also brought up the whole story about getting out early, for a sum of money, wanting to get married next year, will retire in a couple of years… Of course, he has NO family anywhere. I quickly replied that I don’t get a bonus so he’ll have to use his OWN money for that, too LOL.
I believe in revenge for a-holes like this.

Update on ” Captain Curtis Jones, Iraq, Army” This guy has changed his name. I too got tagged by him on singlesnet.com. He is now called “Chief Petty Officer Curtis Graves, United States Navy” He gave the same song and dance about a very large inheritance from his parents who are both deceased = or so he says. He also claimed he is special forces. He is now 41 y/o and set to retire in 18 months. He has tied up his accounts because.. You guessed it… He lost a lot of money. Same song and dance about how his commander uses a cmps to call his wife and he needs one because he cannot use regular communications also saying the cmps wil scramble communications. He also tried to play the installments game with me. The phone service he told me to contact was USA MIL Technologies. I was to send $1,680 to a Randi Land in Laurel, MS. There was also an AOL email link in the USA MIL. Technologies email.
He has tried to get me to pay $70k for a “replacer” to come and serve in his place so he can come home to me. When I said absolutely not, he said that he negotiated the “replacer fee” down to $25k with the help of his commander. I even strung him along to the point of getting bank account information for a bank in Hong Kong for this “replacer”. I have pictures of him and the guy in the pics wears Navy SEAL insignias. (I have a lot of experience with Navy men since I dated one in Cali for a couple of years.) His name turns up nothing. What gets me is some poor Navy SEAL is having his pics used for fraud!!!!
There are times when he gets his english correct and other times when he can’t put two words together. I am still stringing him along. BEWARE LADIES!!!! I have met a “Captain David Bonucci through Facebook and requested friendship due to a business venture I was working on. (Non Profit)
He asked me to contact him through IM and we chatted. He then let me on to believe he was in
Darfur and wanted to help the starving kids.
I started a plan of action to help him and then he asked me to sign up for the TELEX. As soon as I received that email, my heart sank and I knew that I had been misled and on my way to a huge scam. It asked me for $1000.00 and then when I showed it to him he played innocent and then said he heard it was only $500.00!!!!! OMG
I always believe the best in people until they prove me wrong and I was crushed, but glad to be smart enough not to send any money!! Damn, he really had me believing we were going to do something positive for those poor starving babies. Disgusting to take advantage of good people!

i was also targeted by this scam by at first sgt andy pedersson who said he was deployed in iraq. he first contacted me through myspace and then asked me to add him on yahoo. i got the email about the phone scam. i told him i was not going to send money. he kept talking to me he eventually had others request me on yahoo and they began to befriend me. later always finding a way to ask for money. this guy was actually dumb enough to give me his myspace password and i found out he was sending messages to many many women. i took the liberty to post a blog on his page warning potential victims of this scam. i just did this today after finding this site last night. have not heard from “andy” yet but getting lots of offlines from his friends telling me what i found is not true. i am gonna take the opportunity to warn as many as i can through myspace, where i was first contacted.

Hi, just thought that I share my story with you guys. For the past 3 months I have been talking to Captain “Timothy Nein” according to him the same Timothy Nein who received his Distinguished Service Cross and he is suppose to be in the Military Police and i met him through connectingsingles and he used SSG T.Nein picture as well. He told me that his wife died 5 months ago to start with but he insisted that his son needed another mother as he is very lonely and has a defect eye. When I would not buy this story he told me she died 2 years ago. He sent me an email pretending to be his son and “samuel” calling me mum and that his going to buy me a wedding ring but don’t tell dad. The real SSG Nein have 2 children but when I gave him the link to the actual interview of SSG Nein, he said that he did not want to bring his other son into it and said that no matter how much he is trying to win my heart I keep finding things about him. He said that he has not seen his younger son for many years as he lives with his sister -in- law and they would not give him access. His insistant on the Telephone connection which I have sent an email to but have not given any details and I have done a lot of research and found out a lot of truth such as SSG wife is still alive and his children are both with their mum. He gave me this details to give to the TS2: Timothy Wright Nein, the real SSG is (Timothy Foster Nein), 5th special forces group, operation base-Altimur, 2nd Battallion, 12th Infantry Regiment, ID 06/02-10101. I have also found out SSG real year of birth in one of the site on the web but the one I am talking to has given me something else completely. However now I am so glad to have found this site as I never beleived him from the start and this site just confirmed to me all my suspicion, he absolutely discuss me, it is revolving how this pathetic, looser thinks that everybody else are narrow minded as he is. As I actually told him that I beleive that he has stolen SSG T. Nein identity but he still goes on like he is the best thing before slice bread. After one or 2 exchanges on Friends Reunited DAting site, Morris sent me his email and we swopped photoshe was quite gushy about me. after a day or 2 he insisted i contacted wirelessphonec@usa.com to request a sucure line connecton so that he could hear my “aweet voice while away from the base some kind of mission. the name he cave was Morris Anderson Captain Camp Victory (003) Iraq. When the reply came, they wanted £200 and personal details. The email was not the Usual US DOD standard, it looked like a copy of an ebay layout with the typical scammer setup of mane address etc in a list. complete with spelling an grammatical mistakes!I told him I wouldn’t be paying and he spent quite a while on serious sweet talking me into paying but said there was no way! I don’t expect to hear form him again. the email he used was morris.horrix@yahoo.co.uk I would really like to send the email to some one in the US Military to let them know whats going on in their name. … Would appreciate some advice.

I have been in contact with a Cpt. Mathew Swain serving in Iraq, states he has been in for 25yr and this will be his last mission. We met through eharmony and have been talking online since the end of Dec. recently he asked for me to pay for phone communications thru TS2satellite technologies the cost was 850.00 i told him i was unable to afford this and he split the cost with me he does call and we still talk online everyday when he returns from patrol he is now saying that he want to take a leave to come home and meet once again he asked for money and i couldn’t afford it so he said he would pay 4500.00 if i could cover the remaining 3000.00. This raises red flag I really like this man and have tried to find out if he is legitimate I even contacted the United States Army Criminal Investigation Command center and spoke with an Inspector Vandusen to see if they could see if this man is who he says of course I got no help and no answers. When i did tell Cpt. Swain that i could not afford this he was understanding and said that he hoped that we would be able to meet when he comes home in the summer when his tour is over, if he made it home a live. He has sent me pictures of himself and even sent me roses, small stuffed bear, and candy with a sweet note. HELP HOW DO I FIND OUT IF THIS MAN IS WHO HE SAYS OR IF IT IS A SCAM I am already out money for the phone and like i said i really like this man but have my doubts. I did receive a notice from eharmony stating that they had pulled his profile. I did contact eharmony and they asked if i had talked to him or asked him. I did and he was very upset and contacted eharmony he says and got no response back from them. My oldest son who is ex Air force said that if he is enlisted and deployed in Iraq then he can’t be on a site like that due to his duties. States he is from Colorado Springs, Co. Wife died two years due to car accident. He claims he just got promoted to Staff Sgt. He says he is at Camp Victory, Iraq. He is very charming and began to make me believe he was real. He and I have been chatting via yahoo im. He claims he cant call home to talk to me, insisted on me calling TS2 and have a sat phone bought for him. He is claiming he has to pay for his airfare home for R&R and gives stories after stories about all of the reasons why he cant call home, why he has to pay for his ticket. He even gave me a email address to write to Gen Ray Odierno. I rec’vd emails back suppose to be from the Gen but they are fake. Claims he is innocent and someone he met is setting him with this information on this webpage. I am angry cus I really cared for him and I am glad I found this page before I sent him any money. PLEASE WATCH OUT FOR HIM.

HE said his daughter lived with his mother in Colorado and that he was very close to his father who passed away 2 years ago. I met Mark Donnelly about 6 months ago. His email address is sgt.markd@ymail.com. He is a scammer. He wanted money for ts2 and money to come home to me. He got nothing from me.Last talked to him Dec.25 2009 . The pic he uses is awesome. He even told me if I got the phone we could talk on the phone while he was on patrol.I guess if he gets a call the enemy will wait for him to finish his call. lol beware of this guy. I have blocked him and anyone else in touch with him should do the same.

I also have been contacted by Lt Thomas Barrera (this seems to be a new name) anyone heard of him? also from the friends reunited dating site, wirelessphonet@usa.com is where I was asked to go to get my personal chat line to him they were asking for £225 to get us connected.
The only difference is that when I told him I could not afford to pay the charges he told me not to worry about it, we would just continue as we are. Yes he’s full of sweet talk and I also have pics one of him in uniform and one with him and his child. He is divorced as he caught his wife in bed with another man so that was the end of that. He apparently has a place in Worcester where his mother lives and has just brought a place in Newcastle upon Tyne. But is quite happy to lock his place up and come and stay with me!!!! We chat through the IM on yahoo but obviously he’s taking a ‘a risk’ because he really isn’t supposed to be using the laptop/computer. Apparently I am the love of his life and he wants to marry me? oh yes he calls me sweets? is this sounding familiar to anybody?

They are all fake, as stated above all soldiers have a military email address and non of these guys use them they are on yahoo / hotmail etc. Dont listen to anymore bull as thats all they are interested in extortion of money and nothing else. For such high positions they cant spell, misuse of grammar. Yes they can sweet talk and give you the attention, but what good is that when they send you fake pics, of someone and someone elses kids and they all also happen to be widows!!

My mother was recently contacted by someone on the Plenty Of Fish dating website who said he was Sgt. Edward Mcnamara from the US Army. He went by the Yahoo ID and email address EdwardMcnamara2000@Yahoo.Com. Basically same story as some of the other stories I was reading above…told her he loved her and wanted to be with her but kept asking her if she could come up with money for the phone and had her contact the supposed company by using wirelessservice@live.com but for some reason this supposed company didn’t have a website like the legit ones…gee I wonder why. Then today he starts asking her for money so he could pay his Staff Sgt and come home sooner. I have a friend who use to be in the Army and he said never ever do you have to pay anyone to get out of the Army. The only 2 ways are being kicked out or you finish serving your time. All of this started sounded very fishy to me, especially today so I did research on the real Edward Mcnamara and of course all of his information was totally different than what this scammer said. Thankfully I made sure my mother didn’t send him or anyone else any money. Please be careful ladies!

I have been in contact with a SGT Steve Lopez stationed in Iraq. He mentioned in one of our first conversations that he would like me to request his leave so he can come and meet me. I asked him why he needed me to request it and he told me because he has only been there for four months.
He proclaimed his love for me after a couple of days…now to know me is to love me…lol…but come on. I keep our conversation light and his are always filled with love. It’s actually funny…..well except the part where he was going to mass and was going to pray for me. I thought that that crossed the line. A scammer going to church to pray for me…..I think he meant to try to prey upon me.
I did a check and found out that Sgt Steve Lopez is active duty. I also have asked him questions that have proven true. How is this possible?
I do believe I may have figured out a way that they are getting pictures and information about REAL soldiers/men. I am going to research it some more on Monday when I return to work. If this is the case then we women aren’t the only target…our soldiers are, as well.
I plan to contact the real soldier after I get more info….making sure he is in fact real and let him know his identity had been stolen.
We as women can not only protect ourselves in this, but possibly be able to help protect the true soldiers fighting for us.

I have been in contact with a Sgt Frank Kline who supposedly is in Iraq. He advised me I would have to make a request via email to talk to him on the phone. I sent the initial email and I received the following:

A widowed army man, pictures of his kid and himself.. nice looking, charming but always seem very head strong on getting this “phone Line” hooked up so we could chat. litle things he said started to no add up, I remember asking him if we can send proper post, but he says that is not allowed, his laptop did not have speakers, his undying love for me was there but we needed to talk to make it stronger. blah blah.. Like a idiot I almost fell for it and sent the money via western union as directed.. then found this website and have now cancelled the transaction.. I am out of the tranfer fees but got all my money coming back into my bank. I will await to hear what he says now when we meet online later and tell him, I decided not to do the “phone”. Will be intresting to say the least.

The ‘gentleman’ if you can call them that, that I had been chatting with when I offered to send him regular mail he told me that he isn’t allowed to get regular mail in his unit. I asked about a webcam so we could at least ‘see’ each other while we were chatting and he said that they were not allowed in his unit. He used the phrase underground work to describe what he does within the military. I have friends currently in the military and was chatting with them about this and they said underground work is not a military term.

Cept he lived with his sister and her child and his brother just recently got married. He came off very romantic and kind and caring, but I think it was the fact he could not spell to save his life that put me off and that he never answered questions. He never got a chance to prompt me about a phone because I got a bit suspicious of him when he claimed that a group of strippers went into their camp and tried to blow them all up.. I bout died laughing.. I mean come on.. Thats just taking the piss out of the armed services. Just be careful out there and read closely to what they tell you.

I used it today and was able to check up on a guy I have just recently met from a online dating site. The man was a USA Army Captain, who was in Iraq, very romantic letters, full of poetry and must say very well written letters. He sorta got a bit lazy after a few days altho, and changing his story a bit. One day he said he was only gone 4months, 3 days later after my suspicion got worse, I asked him again innocently how long he has been parted from his family and he came back, that it was 12 months and he really missed his family. I would think so too considering three days ago it was only 4 months.. I have not responded back to anymore emails he has sent me, or the “company” asking about the payment for the phone line. Stangely enough when I traced the acutal “Company” IP address, it turns out to be a aol account in the states somewhere.

Definately a scam thanks for putting this information on here. And it does really make me angry they use genuine photos. Just to add to my earlier comment about Lt Thomas Barrera, i have mailed kim about this and i hope she will get in touch. I was a member on Friends Reunited Dating and was contacted first by a man called Kenneth Smith who was not pretending to be a soldier but an engineer working in Afghanistan, Kabul. I’m beginning to wonder if this Kenneth Smith is also posing as a soldier using another name as having read all these other ladies experiences, well need i say more!! With regards to the Lt Thomas Barrera, the membership name on FRD that he was using was Litknighttom and the e mail address i have for him is klusknigtklantom@yahoo.com as for the other herbert Kenneth smith was on FRD as kenneth flames and his e mail is kennethsmith0079@yahoo.com I hope that this info might help some of you out there. If anyone would like to contact me directly about either of these two my e mail address is collins697@btinternet.com i feel we all need to stay vigilant, and stick together to try our best to stop these scams. The real soldiers do not deserve their reputations being trashed in this way. They are fantastic people doing a very difficult job, and i personally feel deep respect and pride in them.

Well…I have another name for you ladies…He goes by Captain John Cody. It didn’t take me long to figure this idiot out. Even to this day he still professes that he is who he is and wants a relationship with me….Uuummmmm…NO! He gave me his Colonels’ name as Col. Bruce Jones. It is all CRAP!!! He wanted me to contact his Col. to arrange leave for him to be with me (I never did!) as I knew this was a huge scam. When I asked how much it would cost, he said he did not know….AAHH HA!
It is a sham that these people do this as there are some women out there who truely are looking for a relationship and these a-holes play on our emotions!!! Let’s make sure they hang themselves with this scam!!!!

Not heard of this person, though his profile sounds startlingly familiar. Some of the phrases he uses in his description of what he is looking for!!! Not sure, but his phrases sound very much like those used by kenneth smith!!! Be wary. If he starts sending you romantic poems!!! well it could well be the same man. Do you have a picture of him? I think you should just keep an open mind at this point, and see what transpires. Don’t be persuaded to pay out any money though, please just be careful.

I think this is the same man that took 40,000 from me over a year. but he used the name raymond avant brown . saying he was a captain in the united states army from colorado. once he got his trust in me he started asking for money first it was for his leave saying he needed 16,000 for his leave saying he had to pay a bond and would get it back when he arrived in the states, then he had a son called ryan needed emergency operation asked for money for that one thing lead to another one day he signed of klice so i did a search and bingo i found his pictures he send me on this site called scam busters so i approaced him he tried to tell me someone stole his pictures which i knew was not true it said where the pictures where stolen from on scambuster so he couldnt get out of that one disappeared for a few weeks now hes back begging for my love just to make him look like hes good hes a scammer bottom line. he messaged me on mydailyflog and then i see he has a profilke on my my year book.

Having found a lovely american solider on friends reunited, I have spent the last two weeks having a very meaningful chat on yahoo mail, every evening, every day for approx. 2 hours. Who in their right mind would do that if they werent genuine. Well robert_sgtdavis.yahoo.com thats who! Please be warned. Serving in iraq also and tells me hes being moved to another base and there will be no internet available for him to use. Needs to hear my voice etc., etc., loves me etc., etc., but needs me to email wirelessphonenet@usa.com and pay £225 to enable us to speak over the next 3 months before he comes home for good and spends the rest of his life with me. I cant believe I nearly fell for it. I’m meant to be an intelligent woman! Oh well. another one bites the dust.

Sorry that you too have been taken in by these rat bags. Its a horrid feeling knowing that you have been sucked in by this scam, but at least you found out before it was too late. You have probably done what i did, found this site and read with a sinking heart all these other ladies stories. Not a nice feeling to realise your lovely soldier in fact is nothing but a cheap liar preying on lonely ladies….well wake up call for these creatures, we are on to them. Spread the word and help other ladies not to fall victim to this nasty little scam!!! I have contacted a local newspaper about this and hope it may make others out there aware.
In the meantime a site worth a visit is britishpenpals.co.uk for a small fee £5 a month you can join and have the opportunity to write, e mail real soldiers in the armed forces, british or from other countries. You might like to look in to this as an alternative to the on line dating sites.

Morning all, i think i may have a new name for you. This one is John Roberts and he contacted me through cupid.com!!! I have had three e mails from him so far over the last three days. His grammar and spelling is very poor, in fact the first mail was all typed in upper case!!!! Anyway by mail three he is calling me honey missing me and has feelings for me!!! Hi well John Roberts did turn out to be a scam as i knew he would. So ladies beware if you are approached by this chap. Sorry to say that he is just another one but at least we seem to be ferreting them out!!! Guess we all need to listen to our gut feelings and just be a lot more sceptical. Hi ladies I was scammed by a guy name Scott Schwartz he claimed he was stationed in Iraq. His home town was Jacksonville Florida. He was a widow his wife died 2 yrs ago he had a son named Joe. He wanted me to send 4500.00 western union for a phone system. He then said he was coming home early and needed 7400.00 for a form and to send it western union. I never sent anything to western union. He hurt me so bad I loved him dearly. How do you put his pictures here. He isn’t in the army either I know that I had him checked. Please help me

Hi Ladies, I’m glad I ran across this site. I too have been communicating with a so called Marine by the name of Frank Black, his scree name is Frankblack007@yahoo.com. This is not the first time this has happened to me so I was aware of the scams going on. I’ve always been skeptical so I’ve never fallen into being scammed for money. There are all different scenerios not just military. When Mr. Black suggested that I get permission from the military to communicate with him I knew what was coming. When he told me there would be an activation fee of $400.00 I siad wow that is alot of money for me,,, I can’t afford that, he than said,,”oh, it may not be that much for you” duh…. So he gave me an email address of “militarycommuncations@usa.com”. I sent an email and got a response right of way about a system called. NAVCOM117,,once i saw this email it confirmed for me that it was a scam… The love letters, and cards that he sends are just another part of the scam.. It’s sad that this is what people have resorted to to get money and prey on lonely women. Good luck ladies and don’t fall into the scams..actually its fun to play along and see how far they go. hehe

You do not have to pay to use the TS2 system.
It’s all on their end, not yours. There’s military “phonehome”, system in place. It’s like a radio to phone line, but not exactly.
Besides, anything sent from the army will have army.mil on the end of it. The don’t do org, yahoo, .com, .net, it’s only the agency or origin.army.mil…hope that helps

I am the real Staff Sergeant Kevin Capazzi. This Kevin “Cole Kapazzi” guy stole my photo off of Myspace and is using it to scam people. I’ve gotten several emails from women informing me that this guy was pretending to be me, and trying to get money from them. Be careful who you’re talking to out there. Also, the “army.mil” comment was correct. Anything without that on the end of it is fake.

Kevin Kapazzi stoled those pictures. He claims to be 45 and the real guy is alot younger. I found the real guy and told him about his pictures being taken. The scammer blurred the pics but if you seen the real ones like I have you can see he is a young man.Also if you look at the helmet you will see the real Kevin spells last name with a C. That is how I caught him, but I knew right away what he was. He start telling me he loved in 2 days. No man falls in love that fast. He has deleted all his accounts.He was on yearbook and myspace. I traced his IP address and found the messages where coming from sunn calif. He doesnt ask for money right away! It took him 5 months to do so.I did not send anymoney to him. My father was in the Army so I knew how things worked. I just kept talking to him until I figured out how to find the real Kevin to let him know. His email is kkapazzi@yahoo.com he is still using this this email address and yahoo messenger. Hes not in Iraq he is in Cal. Hope this helps.

I’ve been patient. My weird shit-o-meter has gone off twice with this guy. I’ve been in a similar situation, but he wasn’t using the right terminology for being military. I’m a
Veteran. the information above is what you may get. Each time, the man posing as David, has said there may be a fee, but he didn’t know how much it would be. I had already told him that I wouldn’t be paying for anything, since I’m not his wife. I’ve been reporting this stuff to DHS, FBI, Interpol and others, but don’t expect a quick response, if any.
I think that most people have believed that this sort of thing can not happen with the military. Well, unfortunately, it can and it has. These folks are everywhere. I’ve met many people online and on different websites, but it you can’t find them anywhere on the website you frequent, then it’s probably a scam. They come from out of nowhere, but again, it’s a scam. Sometimes they hack in to these website, take over the paying customers profile and start asking for money. BlackPeopleMeet, YahooPersonals, Match.Com….all of them, so be careful.
It’s painful to accept, but again, this is the world we live in now. You know nothing about no body, not even the person next door.

OMG I have been talking to this guy David Mcgee Esquivel too and I received the exact same email word for word (1st one). it broke my heart but I am so glad I found this site. It was a little too late for me though. He sent me flowers on Vals day and for my birthday he sent me a heart shaped necklace, so I did sign up to the TS2 service. I feel so stupid. People can be so cruel, and to use God in the scam is the worst.

Hi girls.
I have almost been scammed too. I am from Denmark, and was contacted by Sgt. Micheal Travis, who supposedly is in Iraq at a camp down there. He was “cheated on” by his young and beautiful wife almost 2 years ago. Well, he sent me photos, and he fell in love with me after two days. And now he loves me.
Apparently, his three grandparents are originally from Denmark, the last from the States.
Today he told me on messenger that he is leaving for another camp on Thursday. They don’t have any internet connection, no computers and no way of getting in contact with me, unless I call the military services and pay $480, and we set up a phone connection. Well, luckily I don’t have that kind of money, and he seemed quite disappointed. I told him that if the love was strong enough, it would survive. Suddenly, he had to get some sleep and logged off.
The first thing I did was check out the e-mail address that I should contact: wirelessphonet@mail2usa.com. And luckily I found this site. What a pity that it wasn’t real, but it has taught me a lesson, if it is too good to be true, it isn’t true. At least I have some photos of a great looking guy, now, and I am keeping them.

Thank you so much for putting this stuff on the internet. I almost got scammed today. I was communicating with one Col. Frank Thomason who is based in afgan. Said he wanted to hear my voice but needed to register with their data base (militaryphoning@usa.com). Got an email off them from company called TS2 requesting for a payment of £300. I then emailed Frank and he was nasty when he realised he wasnt going to scam me. Has anyone met Col. Frank Thomason.

HELP! I met Cpt.Mathew Swain through eharmony and have been chatting with him since Dec. started out just finding out about each other as friends he then stated he would like to meet when he returns and wanted to try “dating from there” he has been in the Army for 25yr states he was injured in afghan on a mission and is now in Iraq. He stated he wanted to also have phone contact and that it would cost one time fee through TS2 satellite Technologies when I told him I could not afford the entire fee he split it with me. He does call and we chat everyday when he returns from patrol or IM’s me to let me know that he is back safe. I really like this man, he has sent roses, stuffed bear, and candy with a sweet note. Stating “this is just a little toke to show you that there is someone somewhere in Iraq who truly cares about you” Mathew. He is now stating that he wants to come home on a leave and that it would cost once again I told him I couldn’t afford it he said he would cover 4500.00 if I could cover the balance of 3000.00. I even received a money back guarantee form to fill out from his General Raymond T. Odierno. Now after finding this site I am thinking I am being scammed. I have told Cpt. Swain that I am not sure that I can afford even that amount and he said he understands and hopes that we will get to meet when his tour is over in the summer if he returns a live. I did receive a notice from eharmony stating that they had deleted his profile. I confronted him with this news and he states he contacted them and hasn’t heard back. I did ask my oldest son who is Ex. Air Force and he said that since he is active duty and is deployed to a war zone that he can’t be on a site like that. I have even contacted the United States Army Criminal Investigation Command Center and spoke with Inspector Vandusen in which I got no help and no answers as to if this man is who he says he is. PLEASE HELP I LIKE THIS MAN AND WANT TO FIND OUT IF HE IS TRYING TO SCAM ME OR NOT??

I was contacted by a Sgt Brian Stewart, he contacted me via Facebook wanting a penpal while overseas. He said he was in Afghanistan and wanted me to make phone connection through that TS2 for him. I’m a military brat so when he told me that he was a Sgt and work under the Colonel there becuase he preferred to do that then to be on the front lines, I knew he was full of crap. Not to mention that he said he lived in the states for 20 yrs prior to being moved yet his english is very very broken. He also fell in love with me within 1 day. The pictures he sent me he has on military uniforms but I encourage you to look closely. The uniforms have no Military branch (Army, Marines, Air Force, Etc) logos, and his stripes were not on his arm. Anyway, just be cautious. Sometimes the name doesn’t come up when you google them. Its because they use many different names. However by now you will realise from reading all the entries on this site, that these phone satelites are not necessary. A genuine soldier has many ways to be in touch with loved ones, and it doesn’t involve a wife or girlfriend having to pay out for a secure connection. So be wary don’t part with any money, and if your instinct is telling you that something doesn’t feel right, then listen to it. Please be careful and take care, and good luck.

I’m very pleased that you haven’t paid out any money. This is such an awful situation for people who have and of course its bye bye money because there is no way of getting it back. It’s a very bad world out there with some truly awful people, but all we can do is try our hardest not to be taken in. Like you i’m a single Mum have been for the last 14 years so i wasn’t in a position to pay out any money either. Lucky for me i guess, but like you it rankles that our genuine soldiers are having their reputaions tarnished by these so called soldiers, and its just not right.
Anyway glad to hear that you have got through this experience without too much pain, though like me possibly feeling a little bruised and maybe cross with yourself for being taken in by the lies. We live to fight another day, and are now a little wiser. You take care and just remember there are still some decent human beings around, so don’t loose heart.

Oh my god, i’m glad I decide to check the this website. I’m a single mom of 14 years and started chatting with a Colonel Walter since Feb who claimed to have fell in love with in in 4 weeks and proposed to marry me with plan to resign from army and move to Singapore for good (even though he does not know anything about Singapore etc.). Unfortunately I’ve been fooled to part with money (USD20k) recently because I had to help him make custom tax for a box he supposingly shipped to Singapore but via Malaysia where the custom stopped and insisted on the payment which he couldnt make since he was in Iraq. I was stupid enough to believe and made the payment to someone who claimed to be a UN diplomat (he is actually South African when I met him). He had no ID whatsoever…. and now they claimed the box is full of money and US federal reserve is asking for anti-terrorism certificate which cost USD 65k, but when I said i don’t have that kind of money, they came up with another story claiming now they have the certificates but now must pay 1% international tax which comes up to nearly USD 120k…. of course I told him I dont have the money … now they start to reduce the figure by claiming someone in the US managed to get 80k and I only need to help with 40k….. here I am trying to figure out what to do ….. am so glad i found thus site, now I need to figure out how to run away from him and not let him continue to fool me…. I was so fooled to believe that he really loves me

I am from PNG. I have also been chatting with somebody who claims to be a Capt Brown Mark (brown_mark50@yahoo.com) of the US Army, currently stationed in Iraq. You have said it all. I fell into the same trap and feel disgusted by the whole thing. First of all it was the phone request TS2 which was 800USD, and then came the leave request of USD3500. He seemed like a nice man, it didn’t even occur to me until I found this site. The dumbest thing was I had already given my details. Oh by the way the request were sent to a ssgmarksmith@yahoo.com. A response from the email would always bear the name of good General Raymond T Odierno, Multi National Corps – Iraq, Public Affairs Office, Camp Taji,
APO AE 09342. Where do they get all these information from.
I am so upset with the whole thing and I feel for the real Soldier if ever he exists (Capt Brown Mark), whose identity and pictures are being used by these scammers. In any case, I have really fallen for the pictures.. If someone could tell me if there is a real Captain Brown Mark so I could send him an email to apologize.

I had been talking with a man that calls himself Bond Clark (Charles)…He says he is a Captain & is stationed in Pakistan…We talked on facebook.com where he is presently still communicating with other women..His email address is bondclark@ymail.com & he also uses bondclark@live.com……..He told me 2 weeks after talking to me that he wanted me to marry him & that he needed me to write a letter to his Commander which was supposedly a Lt. Col. Robert Gonzalez which his email was tundesalokun@live.com….He also claimed he owned houses & a tatto shop in Newton, Kansas..So then I questioned the writing this letter but I did it away…I still have the so called return letter back from his commander which looked pittiful..I called him out on it & he apologized to me for it & then we kept talking until he wanted me to get us some communication sattelite so we can talk & he can hear my voice…He also told me that he lived at 115 West 9th Street Newton, kansas & that is how I found a Robert Gonzalez listed at this address…He got mad at me over it & I deleted him from my account after that..I just now started talking to him again..I also checked on a Tatto Shop in Newton, kansas & I told him that I knew who owned the houses & that shop & he stops talking to me…So the funny thing is I sent a message to a guy that works for Body Ink & Steel Tattoo Shop & asked him if he knew who Bond Clark was & showed him a picture & he said no & then he refused to answer any more of my questions & then mysteriously Bond Clark shows up in Yahoo chat & wants to talk to me & he asks me if I knew & I have my theory on who this man is & I think he has a partner in crime & they both live in Newton, Kansas……Can anyone tell me who I should talk to or enail my information too..I also have about 12 -15 pictures of a soldier that he says is him…I blew up one of the pics & it looks like maybe the name on the uniform is “YWAY” I’m not really certain but it looks like it..Also I checked with the 1st infantry division on facebook on one of the pics & they said it was taken at Fort Carson, Colorado & its the 1st Brigade, 4th infantry division…I’m almost ceratin this scam is within the U.S. & not nigerian, but trying to make it look like its nigerian…Someone please contact me over it so we can prevent this from happening again…Also this is the same man that a Lorraine talks about some where up in this list about half way…Thank you…Hopefully we can put these people away if we act fast….

Hi. Anyone who is contacted by someone named “Chief Petty Officer Curtis Graves” or “CPO Graves” needs to stop talking to him. It is a scam. He is currently using the following email: pettycgraves@yahoo.com He will send you pics of some poor soldier who has the name “Graves” on his uniform and carries a weapon used by the SEALS. I was recently was on E Harmony dating site and was communicating with a Soldier. The soldier was being impersonated by a black man from Ghana Africa. He ask me for money for customs to send me a package. I did not do this but this is so sad. Here these soldiers are protecting Americans and are being used in a scammed. I searched for over a week and found the soldier. I have contacted him by email to let him know of his photos that are being used. These scammers are good they tell you just what you want to here. The difference with me is I got the scammer to send me photos of himself. I have photos of him. I wish someone could stop this.

Pretty sure I’m being scammed, anyone heard of Bruce Collins (brc.collins@hotmail.com)? Says he’s just working for British Army and at base camp in Kabul. Says he is something to dowith security softwear, he’s freelance currently working for army. After two weeks has declared his undying love for me then said he could get transit leave but I had to request it by sending email to sgt.jamesanderson@military-services.com. If approved there would be a £1000 notary fee for this. Said he couldn’t pay it as had no access to his own bank account while there (military protocol don’t you know … lol!!). Anyway, I saw this site, told him I wasn’t comfortable with that so asked him to ask his mum to do the email etc. Said he wouldn’t do that as this meant to be about “us”. Thing is I was the one that contacted him on Match.com first, I fell for his charm but when money mentioned my blood ran cold. I have pics of him (supposedly him), who can I send them to to see if others have fallen for his story too. I reported him to Match 2 days ago but he still online on that site which means he is on Dating Direct too. I was also contacted by CPO Curtis Graves. He gave all the same information listed here on the site. How can we keep our servicemen’s pictures from being used in these scams?! Boy, I nearly fell for it hook, line, and sinker; but after being married to a military reservist for 12 years, I know that the military wouldn’t require its enlisted men to pay to contact their loved ones at home. Hello all. I have just been amazed at all the reports of scammers out there. I have on make an attempt just over a week ago. He would only tell me his name was Lingo. I thought that was interesting so I began to look around and found that the person he was speaking of was a true American hero by the name of Adam Lingo. Scammer said he was a colonel…..NOT. I watched some videos that the real Adam Lingo had done and he seems to be just an awesome American. Makes me so angry that sorry a** Nigerian scammers are using our military this way. Wish I knew a way to report them or get them caught. I only found out about this one through aruljohn.com/track.pl and tracking the IP address, It originated from Lagos Nigeria. Watch out ladies. Also wish I knew how to really contact Adam Lingo to just warn him about how he is being used.

Has anyone heard of a Daniel Williamson. I have been talking with him and he indicates that he is a military contractor in Baghdad, Iraq. He hasn’t asked for money but rather a care package (clothes, skin care, photos,….). Very smooth and very believable, almost. Just some inconsistencies in his story. Almost sent him a package until he started asking for a cell phone and if I had a camcorder, to send vidoes and pictures of myself. He indicated he and the men he worked with lost most of their belongings in a bomb explosion.
Suggestions? I don’t think I gave him enough personal information, but I am not sure and don’t want to see him ruin my credit reputation.

I just started talking with Major Shane Peter Barnett. He must be the same one you said is not real. He does show a picture of someone who is decked out in a military uniform. I was scammed before.. got nothing from me. One thing that I realize now is that when you join a dating site.. they are the first to respond.. always. I make it a practice NOW to never communicate with people who live too far away to visit.They also want to go onto yahoo right away instead of staying on the site. They have very little family if any and usually try to tug on your heart strings (Dad died of cancer). I even told this guy that I could spot a scammer in two emails. He was probably laughing at me… well not any more. If you go on the US embassy web-site in Nigeria it will give you lots of scenarios under Romance Scams. I had just never heard of a military one before. I’m so glad I googled the name and someone on here had reported him. Thanks!

Robert Davis really got me going, I thought he was wonderful only to be foiled. Things were going great then he suggested that I subscribe to TS2Satellite for telephone communication with him at a cost to me for £190. I googled his email address which brought me to this site. My suspicions were confirmed. When I confronted him he firstly tried to convince me that someone had used his email address for the scam and was outraged. Secondly, he suggested I was drunk then as a finale, he told me I was very rude and that he would never want a woman like me in his life lol!!! His email address is robert_sgtdavis@hotmail.com. I didn’t think I would ever be involved in something like this, but here I am. I have been chatting with Captain Nathan Kuti for about four days. He just found me on Facebook. Had doubts from the begining but absolutely knew it was a scam when I was asked to “subcribe” for a small fee to speak with him. All of this after I already told him that my was niece just returned from Iraq. I knew that you did not have to “subscribe” to receive a phone call. I am so glad that I didn’t fall for all the b.s. For those of you who come into contact with someone pretending to be lt. col chris hughes or col chris hughes–it is NOT the real chris. I verified it at my local army office yesterday. The real chris is alive and well and in a location they are not giving. He IS aware he is being impersonated, and steps ARE being taken to prosecute those impersonating him.
What I was told to DEMAND from ALL military men you talk to (and do NOT take no for an answer) is their FULL NAME, RANK, UNIT, WHERE they are deployed, and that THEY SEND YOU an email from their military email address. Then you email them back to make sure the email is not fake.
Please rest assured—if we all do our part and notify the local army offices with the proof we have, they can track these people easier and hopefully STOP these scams once and for all.
Do NOT let them tell you they cannot give you that info or send you things via their military email. That is simply UNTRUE. They can, and SHOULD, to prove their identity.

Recently I found the same photo on the YouTube – Military Scam Warning (HopeofNigeria) under the name of Uber Mich.
Luckily I never got scammed but I wasted months of my time and emotions investing in a scammer.
It angers me that scumbags would prey on the emotions of decent people and impersonate honorable men and women in uniform who risk their lives every day to keep the world safe!

She told me, she is a marine. But there are some things they dont match. No military address to send letters, no unit specs., bad English and more such things. Every time when i try to get this information she changes the subject. Also here information about here, so called hometown, are more than fragmentary. Until now she did not ask for money. But last time we talked, she asked for legal information in the real estate sector or company-ups.

Hi I think I just got scammed. The person I got he said his name is Captain Samuel Cox in the US ARMY on the Kabul Base in Afganistain. He has asked me to send money for the phone i felt like and idiot I sent $480 Us dollars via WU for the phone T2 thing. I also noticed really bad grammer as well. He has also told be he is a widow and has a son in the states. I have photos of this so called Captain with his uniform and the name on it as well as in casual clothes some how he has managed to send me a photo of his so called son. His son is suppose to go to Georgia Acedamy and play in the youth team there. He says it cost him about $22000 a year for his education however for a kid that is getting a $22000 education his grammer and english is really bad not to mention he spells words like bussey and say am instead of I’m. I have a friend who is going to report this infomation I have to the ARMY in the US . All I can say is I feel sorry for the real Captain thats photo has been taken I want him to be notified and something done. I managed to find where and when the Yahoo account started as well. He told me he can’t access his account in Afganistain and can’t use cameras . How conveinent. I am now keeping the infomation and have photos I really want this poor Captain to know whats happened and I am going to find it . At this stage I am playing this guy at his own game so Im going to see what happens soon

My brother was contacted by one of these scammers, it was a girl and she actually built an almost legit relationship with him. The e-mails are getting more sophisticated, the one he was sent was from gmail. The tip off for me was that she met him on facebook, I’m not sure about the restrictions on facebook and the army, but I know here in Canada the RCMP does not endorse members having facebook, I can’t imagine one of the most reputable organizations like the US Army doing that and having an e-mail from “gmail”. Plus if there were fees it would be on the US Army website not “Western Union”. It was pretty crazy though, almost fooled him. They’ve lowered the amounts too, this one asked for $120 and the e-mail had US Army logos. Thanks for this blog, it really hammered the point to me, she’s a fake! If its even a her.

I have also received by my skype site a scam using General jeffery Phillips name claiming to be in afganistan on peace keeping force, what made my alarm bells go off was is home page it read ‘ nedd honest people’ ye right so I started to ask questions, with the answers taking a day to get back to me , the I was asked if I was married and it was alright if I was a could be a skype wife to this so called general , and he needed my help he found diamonds and money it was in his containment box I told him it didn’t sound right he was a user and scam artist ,no he said it was his funds, I thought surly Generals make lots of money! So I blocked him and tried to find the right General on Facebook and asked him if he was trying to reach me on skype and if it was contact the USA army about him . After researching the web I came across your site thank god I now know it’s not this General jeffery Phillips , sorry he used your I’d I have great respect for our armed forces and that of America

No there is no site but if it sounds to good to be true it is US Military will NOT need your Money for ANY reason they have access to their own accounts at all times they can use the webcam and they can use skype and msn and ovoo and yim at any time they are not on duty so yes you can find out if they are who they say they are get them on cam to show their faces and not just for a few seconds get them to do a live chat with you trust me it wont be the same guy in the pics if he comes up with no cams due to security reasons hes a scammer also like ive said and CJ also

the scams often involve requests for money from the victim to purchase “special laptop computers,” international telephones and transportation fees to be used by the “deployed soldier” so their fictitious relationship can continue. The scams include asking the victim to send money, often thousands of dollars at a time, to a third party address so the phone or laptop can be purchased for the soldier.
“We’ve even seen instances where the perpetrators are asking the victims for money to “purchase leave papers” from the Army or help pay for their flight home so they can leave the war zone,” said Grey.
Officials warn individuals to be very suspicious if they begin a relationship on the internet with someone claiming to be an American soldier and within a matter of weeks, the alleged soldier is asking for money, as well as their hand in marriage.
Many of these cases have a distinct pattern to them, explained Grey. “These are not soldiers, they are thieves.”
The perpetrators often tell the victims that their units do not have telephones or they are not allowed to make calls or they need money to “help keep the Army internet running.”

My soldier sent pic of him holding board with my name on ….sent me his home address army address …I asked him to send e mail from his army.mil which he did ……everything added up and genuine ..he asked me to open bank account to pay money in himself for us to use in Dec when he finally gets leave ….so I could access money and book hotel for him …..what do you think ….

You can now add Sgt.Brianwest@yahoo.com to the list of scammers. He found me on Zoosk.com. Same type of story, widower, 1 son, wife died in car crash, stationed in Kabul and due to retire in May. We talked via email and on yahoo IM for about 2 days before he mentioned talking by satellite. I had some red flags pop up too and thats why I did some research and was very disappointed to see it was a scam. I just told him a few minutes ago I knew it was a scam (had asked him earlier for his military email to which he didn’t reply). I feel dumb too because I sent him a couple of other pics that were not on my profile.. Now I wonder what he will do with them. I feel bad for the soldier whose name and pics he stole now being represented as a scam.. Very unfair. I reported him to zoosk but so far it appears his profile is still up.

The names go on and on ! I was asked by a Mark Davidson to request communication from a col . Ricardo Gonzales . I did some research and sent col Gonzales a return email with a bunch of copies and pastes of what i uncovered , the col got angry and said i was trying to tell him how to do his job.
not long after , someone by the name of Sgt Jeff Smith Harris contacts me , he is a very subtle man . he talks for a few days and i tell him of this previous experience so he tries so hard to be careful of what he asks of me . These people think they’re slick and smarter than we are , just today Jeff Smith Harris tells me he wont be able to talk much longer , his fees for his communication is soon to be due . I told him , im not stupid and i dont give anyone money . You get paid , You get all meals and clothes and i know u have access to other ways of communication. All got quiet !
Ladies and Gentlemen , pls do not allow urself to become emotionally attached to anyone who asks u for ur money and tells u they love u after a couple of hours of talking . I never allow anyone to get into my head and i wish u would do the same. take care and God be with u all !
