Mr. President,

Please don’t play politics with our troops’ lives! At a press briefing today in the White House, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said that “any decision [to send more troops to Afghanistan] is a number of weeks away.”

Mr. President, our troops need reinforcements NOW. Each day that passes without a decision is another day that our troops put their lives on the line trying to find, fix, and kill the enemy while also trying to stand up a democratic and free government.

As you know, Secretary Gates and Generals on the ground have noted that the situation in Afghanistan is worse than previously thought. I would submit, sir, that the Taliban is feeling emboldened by everything going in our country. Our economy is in ruins, we’ve acquiesced on the missile defense shield, and now we’re dragging our feet on providing the troops we need to kill the enemy – the people responsible for the murder of nearly 3,000 people on American soil. They think they’ve won and they are testing our resolve!

America can’t afford to show weakness, Mr. President. We have the best, brightest, and most lethal military in the world, but it means nothing if we aren’t resourced according to needs on the ground.

Mr. President, please don’t wait weeks to reinforce our troops. The surge worked better than expected in spite of all the naysayers, yourself included. Please don’t play politics with our lives and either send troops immediately or bring them home! Our lives are worthy of defending this country, but only as far as it’s not superfluous.

  1. CJ, love you man!

Ditto – i wrote about this as well at http://www.avotingmilspouse.com. Last Sunday, during his Sunday blitz, President Obama mentioned he would come at it with a ‘deal of skepticism’ as before he commits troops he has an “obligation to the troops and families of those he serves.”

Does this mean he feels no obligation to the troops (and families) currently deployed to Afghanistan? God forbid that he feel those were ‘Bush’s troops’ or that they are expendible. Either way, this is reprehensible.

  2. Sue,
I believe he meant that he was taking a hard look at sending more troops, in his words, skeptical. I hope he is skeptical. That it causes him indigestion and keeps him up nights. I hope he looks at every military action with this type of hard look when he’s committing and re-commiting people’s lives. I truly don’t think he’s making a distiction between “Bush’s troops” and those that he has deployed.
I also checked out your blog and thank you for your service as a military spouse. Certainly a tough job!

  5. President Obama,

Please end the pointless and meaningless US occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan. Our military serves no purpose occupying those nations other than to enrich the plethora of war-mongering defense contractors. We do not defend our nation by occupying Iraq and Afghanistan. Get out now!

    Peace…

    • Interesting that now Afghanistan is a “pointless and meaningless” war to liberals.

  6. Well, its just sane, nothing to do with liberalism. Americans arent the only ones dying, Afghans and Iraqis are dying too, and for what reason ? We need to get out NOW !

    • Jason, if you don’t know the reason that Afghans and Iraqis are dying, then you’re either ignorant or just not very smart. If you question why we’re in Afghanistan, you’re even more ignorant.

  7. now, i am suffering from bad indigestion and sometimes it is painful too.’.:
