A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004

One of YOU recently entered me into a contest over at www.SURVIVALSTRAPS.com to win one of their bracelets. Well, my name was chosen, much to my surprise. I had never heard of the company. But, I looked into it and can’t believe what a cool idea this is.
I love to watch Man vs. Wild on the Discovery Channel. The host, Bear Grylls, is a former British Special Forces operator who puts himself in situations in which one would have to rely on the environment to survive with very little.
One the most important tools that seems to be common in each episode is a flint and steel and…rope or cord. Bear typically uses paracord or, as we call it in the military, 550 cord! So, I was excited after looking into this company to learn what a “Survival Strap” was.
SurvivalStraps is a small, family run company in Florida. They are extremely passionate in their support of the military. According to the “About Us” section of their website:
We realize that we are able to lay our heads down on our pillows safely at night because of the work that they do. We must honor those who serve our country and protect our freedom. They come from all walks of life and from every part of our country. We really hope that our customers use our gear as a vehicle to show support for the members of our armed services, and to help spread the word about the needs they have. Just as they have stood tall for our country, we must always stand by and support the Men and Women in uniform and their families.
Because of this love of troops, they have gotten heavily involved with the Wounded Warrior Project and this recent contest to give free products to troops each month through a Military Service Appreciation Drawing (the same one I won this month!).
I was able to pick out my own pattern from among dozens of color combinations. I chose a camouflage pattern so that I can wear my bracelet in uniform. If I ever need rope or cord, I can unravel my bracelet for over 24 feet of cord!
The site also offers great Care Package ideas that your troop won’t want to live without this holiday season. Check them out at SurvivalStraps.com or listen to our Veterans Day show next week for an exclusive interview with President/Owner, Kurt Walchle. He will be our guest during the 8pm EST hour.
In the meantime, go to the site and enter your troop into the monthly drawing for a FREE Survival Bracelet or Lanyard that they can personalize HERE. Specific rules are published on the site.

Wow very cool. I just came across this that some of you might be interested in… If anyone has a loved one or knows someone that has a loved one in the military please inform them of the free download available from Prescription Audio. The download is for PTSD sound therapy and they’ve recently started to allow the download to be free to those in the military.

I ordered 3 survival straps for my son and 2 of my grandsons. I will order 3 more for my brother, another grandson and my hubby. Hoping to continue working so that I can send some to our warriors in afganistan. All my grandsons and my son are military as I come from a long long line of military since the revolutionary war.
